Default Where do you get your car serviced

My Mum got her car done at the Genuine dealer. $398 for a 45K service. The guy said it would be around $700 for a 90K service because they charge more for a timing belt. What the hey? They charged $41 for coolant and $30 for oil and that wasn't including labor. How can they get away with it?

The poll isn't for people whom do work on their own cars.

I'd be interested to see where people get their car serviced.

yeah the prices are pretty steep i work in a subaru dealership for starters its about $70 an hour for labour. and major services are near the 500-900 mark depends on what needs to get done. and to get the brakes done on an STI will set u back almost $3000. its rediculous but i get one of the mechanics to service my car for a carton of beer. and i can get all parts trade price.

I get my car done at a Engineer I know of. I trust these guys they have proven knowledge of hp, v8's,motorsport, extreme horsepower and many more awards and recongnision to get my service.

I always use good oil Penzoil and service every 5k... can't go wrong with that

Cam belt and timing belt are the same thing aren't they?

Think about it, a timing belt just regulates the cam.. (Basically)

A timing belt is usually a belt to drive the camshaft on overhead cams usually on 4 cylinder cars.

I prefer the chain driven cam.

    I did some research.

ummm... well I know this isn't for people who do their own service, but I do oil and filters evry 5000, but have it serviced in a workshop every 10000.
it's been in 2 workshops since I bought it, holden and ultratune. and without starting a shitfight, I was not happy on either account. but I've found another workshop to do services/repairs and I know the guys there without taking my car in, and I know they're decent and not after big$, so we'll see hpow things go

With my old car I needed Midas to bleed my brakes. Then they did that and found the rear brake cylinders leaking, brake hoses worn out and front rotor thickness low.
What should have been $63 turned out to be $440. Never again will I be a dumb sucker. They drained me every last cent because I was a d*ckhead.
