Draft For War

I'd like to know who of us here would go to war for our country if there was a national draft. vote YES if you'd fight or NO if you'd rely on other nations backing us. I definately would. Who's with me?

i was under the impression that conscription was pretty much compulsary? ie you wouldnt get to chose yes or no.

there's plenty of excuses to get yourself out of it or atleast put into lesser positions like clerk or such. don't get me wrong all positions are needed, but the more people at the front with artillary the better.

I would only want to go if Australia or one of our western allies was attacked in a BIG way, otherwise meh.

I have already been sent on deployment for our country.
Four and a half months in Iraq.
And yes I'd do it again!!

I think it's subjective. right now? I'll leave it to guys like deserthead.

if I wasn't kept there for a set peiod of time I can say with certainty I would, if I could come home after 2 weeks

i'd be more of a hindrance than anything. that's if i didn't cut sick with a machine gun.

I'd fight but only for the defence of the country. I wouldn't support conscription. But I would support a mandatory stint in the army, like they have in other countries.

Can't say when i was patroling i ever had artillery out there with me.

All i will say is this, the army, its not a job its a lifestyle. I'd give my mothers life just to be back in...stupid broken legs

yep, i'm doing teaching. It took me a while to come to that decision, i tried out different jobs and found that i didn't like them or wasnt' particularly good at them.

Im enlisting for the army anways, hope to be a artillery operator for the reserves, then if all goes well go full time in the army. bloody recruiting process takes its time

I wouldn't enlist to fight. I would enlist to be a mechanic or something similiar. But not to fight with guns and the rest. I wouldn't enlist for an office job either! Boring! If I was trained how to work on the machinery, I'd be happy to do that - it's something that's still hands on, but not so confronting!!

Wouldnt pass the medical but Im sure I would help where I can. When I was at trade school one of my instructors was a field mechanic in the army. According to him the life expectancy of a tank recovery vehicle was only about 45 min. Dont reckon I would want that job.

In Vietnam, the life expectancy of a forward scout in combat was 8 seconds. Its why i didnt mind being arse end arnold now and then in exercises

I'd like to think that the days of big wars and invasions was over. While we see it happening in iraq its not the scale of a World War.

If i was needed i'd fight, however i dont believe that the answer is going to war, you can get cooperation from most places by trade sanctions and stuff like that, i think it's a more mature way to go about it. Maybe im just naiive?(sp?), who knows
