    thanks mate.
also this is sort of tricky but does vicroads calculate the power:weight on kerb mass or tare mass? (i am guessing that kerb includes all fluids and full petrol tank?)
    thanks, garth.

No idea mate.. but if it's that close i'd probably be calling vicroads to clarify.

A thought... if you are on your p's i think all forced induction vehicles are restriced anyway, regardless of power:weight.

I checked in my banned vehicles list from VicRoads and only the STi variants make enough power for them to be banned..........which backs up my claims to you to not sell your car!

yeh so i can only drive the the pre 1999 wrx's.
i am just looking at all the cars avalibal to me for under 12k (purchase price).
the list is looking like this at the moment:
    wrx
    OR
    s/c calais vt
i am leaning towards the wrx because of the handling and tuning potential but the theft thret is a major drawback...
whats peoples thoughts on the security of wrx's? and vt's for that matter.
why should i buy one car over the other? (because its a holden or jap-crap inn't really an answer)
    thanks guys.

eh... i'd be looking at an s/c vsII over an s/c vt... it's going to go harder and is a well sorted car, unlike the VT.

You wont be gettin a good L67 VT Calais for under $12K. I would get prices on insurance for the two aswell. For all you know they might not even insure the scobby.

i had a s/c vt (i dont want a vs because of the interior) calais lined up ready to buy for 12.5k. it was a great car 160,000km on the clock, rego till november, serviced by holden, i had even gotten the racv quote on it, but i didnt buy it because of a culmination of ****ing shit that i am still bloody pissed of about.
insurance is 2.5k for the vt and i am not sure about the wrx, waiting on just car insurance.

just have a shop around for insurance.. they will rip you blind if you let them. I'd imagine you should be able to get closer to $2k...

I'd buy a WRX but make it look like a granny's RX , take everyone by surprise when you start doing 4 wheel drifts up the street. could do the same with a HSV or an XR6 turbo. damn I want a quick sleeper.

go for the wrx if u want handling. pluys the pre 1999 models are nicer to drive anyway they new ones are huge compared to the old ones. try and get a 99 model not a 2000 they got the same body shapes but the 1999 are way nicer to drive. but they are alot to assure because they get stolen so much.

mate was in the same position as you and basically he could only get the wrx wagons coz of their higher weight.

If its illegal ull still get insurance (which will bend you over regardless of model) but if u crash they'll void the contract coz the car is illegal the shifty bastards so be careful.
