Most of the ones I've met haven't been insane, just real "characters", like any crowd, ya have the good, the bad and the just plain ugly. Seriously though most of em drive pretty damn well having had plenty of practice, but you only really notice the minority who are doing dodgy and dangerous things. And when someone does a last minute lane change in a 40 tonne chunk of steel on wheels you REALLY tend to notice it.

Ever stopped to think that magna was sitting in a complete blindspot?

blind spots aren't an excuse to be a ###witt.... the truck was in the wrong... it's up to him to check to see if he can safetly change lanes before doing so... had he damaged the magna and got the police involved, i'm sure he would be in real shitt.... there's special mirrors from a long time ago that cut out blind spots.... sorry to say the truck driver was at fault...

Not to mention that truckies are hyped up on amphetamines and drugs to keep them awake so they can do 24 hour shifts and crap (or so I've seen on current affair shows)

The latest trucks from europe are coming out with a Heads Up Display, Radar & automatic steering assist(basically a rumble pack for the wheel) to try & stop the blind spot accidents. Those in the trucking industry are fully aware of the problems on the road and are actively seeking ways to combat the issues. You want to hope that a normal passenger car doesnt get as heavily regulated.

from what i have seen on the roads and heard about truck drivers is.......... GOOD truck drivers with over 1 million klms of driving experience had never done anything like pushing cars off the road or had driver blame accidents..... BAD truck drivers push cars off the road all the time and have plenty driver blame accidents.....

what a crock of sh*t. i was a truck driver for a while and it's only a small minority of interstate drivers who are on something, and even then its usually speed based substances that keep them awake not hallucinating. try blaming the companies that make them drive fom sydney to perth in 3 days and dock them when they're late. I've seen a couple of trucks merge with a car in their blind spot, but isn't it sensible for the car driver to either get in front or behind the truck, not sit in his blind spot. I've seen plenty more cars merge unsafely than trucks. i'd like to see you drive something that weighs 40+ tons and see how many wankers let you in when you need to change lanes.

I take that back, I was generalising which is wrong and I'm sorry! There have been cases of drug use, and it's likely the companies fault, but it's impossible to tell which ones are so it's best to just be safe driver

lol they are crazy, but from working in the servo know they are also some of the best drivers i have ever seen as far as picking space and knowing their dimensions perfectly.

Having said that ive been forced off the road by a trucky. speeding, drugging whatever he pushed me into the grass at 100 clicks (say 30 because i did a good job of slowing down before hitting the slipper).

all truckies are probably on drugs, all p-platers cant drive and all insurance companies are out to rip you off.

i've seen p-platers and other various scapegoat groups (women drivers, asian drivers, taxi drivers etc) do the same thing.

Don't get me started on Insurance companies. I've been insured for the past 3 and a bit years through *insert reputable company here* being told every time we went into the office to talk - That my car was listed as a Calais Turbo (even though it wasn't)

Only to call back yesterday and get a quote for the new car. We can't cover you- thanks for wasting my time. The joys of being classed as an under 25 irresponsible driver proned to accidents.

And I must admit, I haven't met many truckies in my life time, but the latest I met was high on speed and was offering to give us some, was at the pub drinking and was apparently heading off for townsville later that night.

And how many people are driving drunk or under the influence of some other drug in a passenger car?
Cause you see one driver on speed dont put them all in that class. I deal daily with drivers that run Quads to Darwin. They are one of the most proffesional groups of people that I have dealt with.
And like stated earlier, it is the companies that enforce impossible timetables that are at fault, not the driver.

Why are there no female truckies? Or very very few..

I work at a Servo which is about a kilometre away from Woolworths Head Office in Vic, so we got truckies ALL the time.. We also have a service lane, so heaps of assorted truckies stop off to buy smokes and drinks..

I haven't seen ONE female truckie.. The job's aren't that physically demanding in terms of lugging stuff in and out of the trucks are they?

I'm seeing quite a few female bus drivers though..

The police setup a random drugtest (I forgot where/when but it likely was last year) and the results were shocking, over 50% of drivers pulled up tested positive to canabis or other illegal narcotics!

Hey kid, you've been driving for only a very short time, wait until you've been on the road for 20 years or more.
I've been driving for 20 yrs and the most sensible thing you and other uneducated young drivers can do is stay out of a truckies way.
They need heaps of room to slow down, heaps of room to turn and respect for their abilities as drivers.

I think that's not the right attitude, just because someone's older and has more experience does not automaticly make them a better driver.. consider things like illnesses, reflexes, busted hips, changes in the road rules.. too many variables!

Experience can lead to arrogence, making poor decisions because of overinflated egos.. lots of things

Damn, today on my way to Uni.. It's a big 80km zone, but people in the right lane always travel at about 100km/h.. I think you know the kind of road I am talking about..

Damn trucky was going 70 in the right lane.. Of course it took him 20 years to speed upto 70, so it was much slower. And wasn't even making a right turn, this went on for at least two BIG intersections.. He was in the right lane for no good reason.. He kept going forward after about 15km of right lane driving..

Drivers kept overtaking him like he was a hazard.. But he didn't take the hint.. Bastard..

I think you'll realise I wasn't generalising, I said the last one I met, and to be honest he was a complete wanker. Editting.. May I add that even if people in passenger cars are under the influence, which no doubt alot of them are. But simply comparing sizes. The truck has potential to kill alot more than a passenger car.

Hey Kid. hahaha, just for that I'm labelling you a wanker too.

I don't drive.. what's your point? I just don't like it when someone who's old comes in and starts telling people they're better at driving purely because they're older.. It's probably as annoying as people who pick on people with Chev badges on their V6s..
