Please be advised that NBC Universal and/or its subsidiary and
affiliated companies (collectively, NBC Universal) are the owners of
exclusive rights protected under copyright law and other intellectual
property rights in many motion pictures and television programs,
including the title(s) listed below (the NBC Universal Properties). NBC
Universal diligently enforces its rights in its motion pictures.
It has come to our attention that WestNet Pty Ltd is the service
provider for the IP address listed below, from which unauthorized
copying and distribution (downloading, uploading, file serving, file
"swapping" or other similar activities) of NBC Universal's motion
picture(s) listed below is taking place. We believe that the Internet
access of the user engaging in this infringement is provided by WestNet
Pty Ltd or a downstream service provider who purchases this
connectivity
from WestNet Pty Ltd.
This unauthorized copying and distribution constitutes copyright
infringement under applicable national laws and international treaties.
Although various legal and equitable remedies may be available to NBC
Universal as a result of such infringement, NBC Universal believes that
the entire Internet community benefits when these matters are resolved
cooperatively. We urge you to take immediate action to stop this
infringing activity and inform us of the results of your actions. We
appreciate your efforts toward this common goal.
Please be advised that this letter is not intended to be a complete
statement of the facts or law as they may pertain to this matter or of
NBC Universal's positions, rights or remedies, legal or equitable, all
of which are specifically reserved.
Please send us a prompt response indicating the actions you have taken
to resolve this matter, making sure to reference the Notice ID number
above in your response.

Thats what happens when you download a file from a company uploaded file. They do their own releases now to track leechers. Then give out these threatening letters.
Had you lived in US you probably would have already been to court
Thats why if you know someone in the scene you just use their private ftp's
There are hundreds of thousands of illegal downloads in australia every day. Maybe millions, just state that you thought the email was fake and download from somewhere else.
I am a very active user of bit torrent and although have not gotten many movies lately have gotten entire series' of tv shows.
I think they are just trying to scare you into stopping because they can't make you stop unless they are working with the AFP (which I doubt.)
Wow, If I got one I'd probably stop DLing for a while. Did the email come from your ISP, or direct from NBC? If from ISP I'd be more worried. Get Peerguardian (google it) new version works awesomely, blocks any nasties trying to access your PC, lists updated often..
I hope you put in the comments for that torrent that it's a commercial trap so other people don't get hit by it (not that I condone piracy)![]()
If they put the file up as a torrent to be downloaded I don’t see how they can say that I am illegally downloading it as they put the file there to be downloaded.
how would saying I thought the email was a fake would help things?Originally Posted by ucwepn

I use Utorrent to leech stuff, but not received an email... yet!
However I have read of people getting this email on other forums, would seem it is a standard email, as it is the same content.
Personally I would ignore it, just trying to scare the pants off you.
