can someone please educate me? i understand the concept, just need to know the how-to's, and the restrictions.![]()
I'll assume that you know how the whole process works (download a .torrent file, then use a BitTorrent program to download from other seeders/downloaders). Basically the site you get the .torrent from gives you the information on who has that file, and you download directly from them.
I personally use Azureus (a Java client), there are many others (BitComet, BitTornado etc.).
Basically anything that has a copyright on the original copy is illegal to download, however that does not stop many people.
Hope this helps
but its great that the government can do nothing about it. unlike p2p networks, there are no servers for them to raid
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
All they can do is shutdown the actual torrent search sites (RIP suprnova.org), but even that they have a very hard time doing.
Actually int he US now, they are just hacking the server log files, every ip that has connected to any illegal file is scanned if its an offence in the said state people are getting into trouble.Originally Posted by stocky

I use Azureus but it uses a lot of resources 80 meg or so. Utorrent I heard is ok.
I use BitLord - one of my preferred ones so far. Haven't used it for a while actually.
Utorrent is the best bit client out there. Small, simple to use, goes light on resources and has all the features you need.
Alot of private trackers are banning versions of bitcomet, bitlord and others.
Stick to either Azureus or Utorrent... But Utorrents the best imo
Yupyup - Utorrent has all the functionality you get from any other Bittorrent client but the program is tiny - 154KB to download... and as for system resources - that'll be under 3MB thanks. Azureus can go jump - I've seen it chew up upwards of 150MB memory. What a joke!Originally Posted by VLishes

I use Azureus for the plugins (scheduler).. It runs on a 2nd machine so resource usage doesn't bother me in the slightest...![]()
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
I use azureus, because it runs on my machine, and i can still do whatever else i want to do. Also, I reccommend anyone using it should use Peerguardian 2 - you'd be amazed at the number of people trying to access your machine
Safepeer is another handy Azureus plugin to have.. you need to set it up to run asynchronously though, otherwise it takes a few minutes for Azureus to load.
whats good sites that you can dl the torrents em self from? games mainly.
ummmmmarrrrrrrrr
i use 360share but its full of virus's now and pictures of ipods. gay
also with utorrent its telling me my port is closed? how you open it. i went to the site that told me to but it didnt make any sense. anyhelp would be great . ty
Mike, try torrentspy or torrent reactor. They are probably the best IMO, or just type into google whatever your looking for followed by the word torrent (good for finding a specific episode of a show) E.G- soprano's s01e01 torrent. (season 1 episode 1)

Also 'the pirate bay' is a good site for torrents. Watch out for viruses on these big public trackers though. The authorities can't shut down the sites so they up virus instead
ummmmm im networked to the main comp wots hooked up to the adsl modem. is that a router or not??? well makes no dif cause we gonna get a 4 port so the other compy can be online too. thanx blokes ill suss it outOriginally Posted by Propane
Well technically, it doesn't matter if you have a router or not, it depends if you have a firewall built into that router, and it's really simple:
Open the the web browser site which allows you to make changes on your router (http://192.168.0.1 on most if not all home routers) go to the port forward (redirect) page and enter in the port that the torrent client program has allocated. then you're all done
some good search sites i have found:
Torrent Spy
Mininova
Those two are by far the best from the junk that is out there, as some search sites just flog all the info from the main sites.
thanx mate. also do i have to do it on the computer that is the gateway?? or it doesnt matter can i just do it on my compy thats networked thru the main one??

It walks you through how to port forward for Utorrent
and if your computer reaches the internet you know that the gateway has been correctly set on your pc, so no need to worry about that.
