Reputation- Poll

Just getting a rough idea who's thinking what. Three options.

Don't change it.
Get Rid of it.
Or Changes.

Changes being it requires more moderation, to stop negative rep for pointless things, or positive rep for pointless things. In essence making rep points more warranted. Only get them if you truly deserve them.

It's all good to have polls and stuff, but at the end of the day this work falls on Admins to implement and Mods to maintain.. still good to give us an idea, but like I keep saying if you don't think you've recieved reputation you deserve simply turn it off completely like the picture shows..

It's not only the system though, at the end of the day it's the users who are leaving the reputation and earning them, dare I say some of the more smart-arse users deserve what they get

I think it can work but with moderator approval of all points to stop personal attacks. I have recieved bad rep because people got offended by the truth or I cracked a joke. I know who they are and I wont retaliate because that would make me just as inferior as them.

True you can turn it off but what if you want it there and make sensible/informative posts and you want to see peoples opinions?

Just fix the system with moderated rep points (I know you mods aren't that slack)

And that's true as well, there are a lot of people leaving unjust reputation because of conflict of opinion..

The reputation holds no value to me (and this is just me), I have a rough idea of the people who post here, their opinions and what I think of them is made up, just because a user has a lot of positive reputation doesn't mean they're top blokes/chicks.. it's sort of like Post Counts, they mean nothing in real life

I havn't looked yet (I don't even think us moderators have access to that part of the adminCP) but this is something that we wouldn't be doing, it would be up to the Admins with us helping where we can, something that big would involve a lot of work (removing whole pieces of select code or inserting new ones in many places) and changing the way the database works..

there are similarities but i like the ebay system better. it would good to be able to view peoples profiles, see what positive rep they have received, who it was from, and what post it was concerning.

the user rep system wont be changing, it's a simple desision of this, it either stays or goes, it is not able to be moderated. no amount of code changing will alow t his to happen, only way for it to be moderated will be for vbuliten to re-write the entire system.

Yeah that's true but what I was suggesting would only apply to people who buy and sell stuff, I mean there's a lot of members here and I trust them heaps, I'd probably only buy stuff that's local pickup only anyway, but it's a cool thing to have, you can see how many transactions that user has been involved in and how the user's been rated, would probably help get more people into buying/selling here because they trust the system

I think public would be a good way too, if a user leaves a lot of people feedback comments you can view what they've left and see if they're a whinger or not, but the way the system is now it holds no real value, only thing we're getting from it is if you hover the mouse over someones pip it will tell you a model of Holden or something else.. not really something to get fussed over I reckon but that's just me

It is generally used without too much trouble. easy to turn off so its not like you have to have it.

Some people screw with teh system. if you dont agree with neg or pos feedback left for you pm a mod and in time it can be looked into.

People deliberately screwing with the system usually dont last long anway.

It depends on the people reading your posts, some people give feedback some dont, their choice. The thing is it seems every 3rd user has something in their sig saying "click the scales" or "give me rep", it seems people are too hung up on this rep thing like it's an e-penis or something.

I think postcount is enough to tell the long lasting members, the idiots generally dont last too long so you get a feel for the people who are sensible enough to stick around.

Its a good idea, but can have too many consequences, like ppl being stupid with it, but on the good thing it gives ppl bak critacism if they give a good point etc.

I voted it shoudl go beacuse i see it as more trouble thatn its worth and creates more word for the mods, the shite shoudl be about information not points counting of who is the best.

I love this site and have been a member for years, i see it has positives and negatives.

No one modified the poll, the numbers match perfectly according to what I'm seeing in the admin panel.

I try to remain unbiased on this one, obviously it's causing problems but looking at what I'm looking at there isn't much flexibility when it comes to the rep system.

I don't like it but you should all know me by now I don't enforce something just because I don't like something, everyone has opinion and they are entitled to it.

Edit: Just looking at the code, I should be able to make it compulsory for users to leave comments, anything much beyond this though is outside of my expertise.

If people have to leave their names, many won't leave bad rep for stupid things. They'd be to gutless to leave idiotic reasons for bad rep because then the person would know who they are and they'd have to face the consequences.

i didnt modify your poll, i edited it, removed the option of leave but moderate reps. as i stated before in my post which is a few above this one, i said why.

like i said, those 5 people who voted for stay's but needs moderation will need to cast their vote again. why, because that isnt a valid option, and i dont wanna see people let down if that option isnt actualy able to happen

I got more rep points left for me on that stupid thread than I did for all of my how to tutorials combined, now thats what I call pathetic.

I'd like to reputation disabled for the pub and jokes forums (if possible).

Also there are problems with leaving your name, you guys can't see this but I can as a mod, many many people are giving each other undeserved feedback tit for tat, I've lost count of how many times I have seen comments like thanks 4 the rep points mate heres some in return. Thats total bullshit, I think a lot of people just leave their name because they are fishing for points. Then u get those who leave negative poinst in retaliation.

I never used to leave my name for rep points, then I stated doing it as a bit of an experiment all of a sudden I am getting points in return from these people I left rep for. If anything I think leaving your name should be banned.
So what if you know who left u bad rep, what u gonna do about it, nothing..... or go and leave them bad rep in retaliation then that makes you just as bad as them. Anyone has a problem, simple get it sorted out by a admin/mod.

I think if we were able to weed out all the people using this thing the wrong way it could be really good.

Also something interesting I forgot to add, upon checking out reputation some people who claim they always leave their name and claim that people who don't are gutless are full of shit.

Not everyone here, I won't mention names, some are true to their word, others are lying hypocrits who never fail to leave their name on all positive feedback but seem to coveniently leave it out on bad feedback.

well i have no doubt believing that because chances are that a grudge will be held and your right that a lot of people are fishing for points, i think its good to leave a name and bad, its got both advantages and disadvantages, i think just leave it up to people to leave their name or not, but that system can also be abused... i wont write that here because i'm sure people will start doing it

I agree with those suggesting to put a name on it. i always leave my name.
