Sorry for making so many new threads here lately I feel like a whore lol.. Anyways this is kind of a "look out this could get you thing"..
Basicly there's a bug in IE that makes the address bar say something else than what the website really is, this could get a lot of your passwords if you enter them into a fake site exploiting this, I recommend switching to Mozilla Firefox (or suite) and being free from this risk lol

Yup, i made the switch to firefox a few weeks ago. At first i thought it was the same, now i think its a billion times better!
been using firefox for a couple of years now, best decision ever. theres still the odd websitre that needs internet explorer though. but not enough to use it everyday

IE --> Firefox
Outlook --> Thunderbird
I just switched over IE to Firefox.
Not to bad I say.
I run it but nothing.
I switched from IE to firefox then back again a while ago, too many sites wouldn't open for me with firefox, has it got any better, because I did find firefox kinda quicker.
I find that disabling java and scripting in IE stops the spoof from running.

I havent used exploder for over a year now, would never go back. My sister has to use it for her net banking as Firefox wont work, and I end up with trackers and shit on my comp when ever she has used IE, so I feel Firefox is safer.

Avant is just a plugin, youre still actually using IE - just that youre giving it the features of firefox
Personally Ive been on firefox/mozilla strains for about 2 years now, have no trouble with page incompatibilities, Ive probably only used IE once this year. I use Thunderbird too, but its got a long way to go in terms of usability.

Tried firefox and thunderbird, both have too many issues for my liking, so till they iron out the bugs, I prefer avant.Originally Posted by DJ Majah
They forced us to use firefox at work, but 3 out of the 4 sites I have to visit regularly for work often won't load or crash, then I have to kill the process through task manager as it refuses to close, so I went back to IE and told IT basically to shove it as I am not spending my day reloading pages just to humour them. Luckily the IT manager and I are drinking buddies so I get away with it

I'll just stick to not using a OS platform built on stolen software/code. Free yourselves from the insanity...destroy windows
I would but I'll need to support this OS, good to stay fresh with it.. plus I like my gamesOriginally Posted by minux

been using mozilla for a while now and had no issues like i had before.
Use star office, it loads all MS office documents. If you want to play games Vmware, winex etc all do the job quite well. A little time and it can be all done.Originally Posted by Sashyre
Nope, been there, worn that T-shirt. Is not totally compatible with formating of word and excel documents.Originally Posted by minux
Then the kiddies have to save work and try to get word/excel at school to open it - it's not worth their hassles and frustration. Easier to cave for now. Then you start talking about powerpoint presentations and open a new can of worms.

Well, in the past 12 months, ive built 3 major spread sheets, 7 powerpoint pres, a company mnaual(word) and an access database, all which have run fine when i take them to work. The spreadsheet in its raw form equates to an uncompressed 6.8 meg file without any data entry.
Mozilla's support for websites is slowly increasing but still pays to keep IE for the time being as a backup.
If you want to really get around the whole spyware thing, create a second user account on your PC that doesn't have admin rights and use that for day-to-day computing and then either logon as the admin user to install stuff or use "runas" to do it - you'll find most spyware won't get through since there'll be no access to install and run dodgy software including ActiveX controls etc. I support thousands of machines in different environments and I don't remember the last machine I had to clean spyware off where the user DIDN'T have admin rights.
been using firefox for about a year now, computer is so much more happy
so much less spyware its not funny!
