depends wot ya buy but the initial cost is a bit i bought it before i was able to drive so bassically all the money i made working part time i would spend on it lol.Can get coastly for parts to when i first started i broke so many wish bones lol clip another car and hit a wall flat out and then there's another 10 bucks for wishbones lol. It's good fun too can get really competitive with mates trying for best lap times

my old car was originaly one of the 1/10 ford xr6 utes had

force 21 engine running 20% nitro
    2 speed fully adjustble gearbox
    1/8th diffs
    cusom polished tune pipe
    all steal belted kevlar belts
    fully polished chasis
all hiden wires to the servos
    custom fuel filters and lines
few other mods jus cant think of at the moment

and it was that fast it wasnt funny......i virtualy stuck the biggest moter i could in it had so much torque it would twist the chasis....u could be traveling at 40ks boot it and jus all 4 wheels jus bag up and kick out sideways
and it would out acelerate electrics r/cs of the line.... wish i never sold it now ill post up a pic if i can find one

and now i have a 1/8th buggy with force 21 running 20% full crabon fibre chasis all billet alloy wishbones shock towers and steering components it goes pretty good aswell

i have an electric one that i used to put foam back wheels on and it would drift really well, and if i went through dirt the tyres would get full of dust and donuts on the pavement it looked like it was smoking up
then i left it sitting infront of a cabinet with a fishtank on it.. the fishtank got smashed and my car never turned on again
it had a XY GTHO body on it (i know a ford) but it looks really tough. They didnt make XU1 Toranas or VK Commodores so thats why i got it. Ill get some pics of it when i get digital camera batteries. but it wont have wheels cause i sold them

Ya gotta shop around.. Coupla weeks ago i picked up a 1/10 4wd electric road car with a SS ute body for $300. (RRP:380)
It's not top of the line but i've seen the same chasis/motor combination give the big buck units a run for their $$ in the 540 class (standard engines pretty much)

I is only just startin out, but havin fun learnin.. Still tryin to make the little adjustments needed to get her goin proper..

I reckon for a begginer with a little interest in competin socially they're a pretty good startin point..

If ya think the modifyin bug is only with big cars , ya wrong.. I'm already lookin at wheels/tyres/chasis mods & new bodies.. Now i get some spare $$ & can't decide which car to put it towards...

I'm saved a little temptation in that i want to try competin in the 540 class to start with, so the motor will be as bought for the time being...

However, the mods you can make to the chasis, wheels, electronics could be a worry... I is also going against the norm with my body selection.. I'll be honest, i picked the car coz it was a Holden body & while everyone suggests the supra, etc bodies for competin, i'm gunna try some diffent wings on the back & see how i go..

It's somethin a little different i reckon.. Flyin the c/dore flag amongst all those ricer bodies...

too be honest when i race i don't notice a great deal in boddy's people say they make a greta deal of difference im goin for a ute for my next one.But having never bought a shell here before im not 100% on wots available the vauzhaull astar on mine just now is awesome one siv had in past year or 2 i would recomend are honda integra, lexus is200,180sx,rx7,dodge stratus(the one i found to be the ultimate shell) only thing id recomned is no shells that have alot of overhang at the rear ie long shells cos the downforce is awfull

I've seen those Dodge stratus shells for about $39 bare.. Nice price and damn hot lookin body too...

Might have to get one for if the ute proves impractical or falls apart..

Had 1 high speed roll ova so far, survived pretty well actually.. Ya shit yaself when they start to roll an flip though, eh....

Had mine out on street near house the other day, just doin some battery testin... Gave the wife a go, me standin infront of a stormwater drain just to be safe- no problems... Gave the daughter a go, shes just cruisin round in gentle figure 8s. Just as i was feelin safe about my cars future she nails it, dead straight @ full throttle, straight past me an down the storm drain.
I couldn't have gotten the angle better if i tried. Luckily theres been no rain here for a week or so & with the assistance of a coathanger i recovered the ute, non the worse for wear....

Was almost worth the scare for the look on her face.. She stood there in stunned silence, probably imagining how many girly trinkets she was gunna lose to cover the cost of replacement..
Is funny now, but freaked me out at the time....
