Saudi king slashes petrol prices

SAUDI King Abdullah today ordered petrol prices in the oil-rich kingdom be slashed by more than 30 per cent.
The royal decree was released through the official SPA news agency.
"In order to improve the living standards of citizens and for the public good, we have ordered that the price of one litre of petrol for the consumer be changed to 0.60 riyals (21 cents) instead of 0.90 riyals (31 cents) until 10/12/1427," it said.
The date was a reference to the last month of the Muslim lunar calendar, which would coincide with next January. The move comes as Western consumers of the world's leading oil producer and exporter face sharply increased prices at the pumps amid record high crude prices.

yeah it's a well known fact that the saudi's get cheap fuel, and when Bush gets his hands on all the oil the world as we know it will end and something a lot worse will emerge
England people have been paying equivelent of $2.00 / litre for a long time now, it's just a matter of time before we do too.. the Saudi's get it cheap because they're the ones producing it, doesn't need to be put on boats or whatever..
Also just a question doesn't Australias oil come from Timor and not middle east?
English cost of living is higher, but so are their wages
Current price of petrol in the UK is £0.99 a litre
£0.99 GBP (United Kingdom Pounds) = $2.38163 AUD (Australian Dollars)
Australian oil production is now just 55 per cent of our consumption. That other 45% extra oil is being imported. However the price of petrol in Australia is set in Singapore and OPEC sets the rate.
Here are some more numbers. We'll keep them in US dollars, the currency of oil. Global production/consumption is running around 85 million barrels a day. At $US70 a barrel, that means "someone" is pocketing around $US6 billion ($AUD 8 billion) a day, every day. Adding to around $US2200 billion a year.
OPEC is getting around 40 per cent of this. So with the price of oil broadly doubling, OPEC's revenue has doubled from around $US440 billion to $US880 billion a year.
The countries in and around the Middle East get about 60 per cent of this. So the rise in the oil price is pumping an extra $US265billion or so into those countries. Of which the biggest beneficiary is of course Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest exporter. At a $US70 oil price, its daily income is around $US800 million.
Certainly the first part of the statement is true, but the second is not a well known "fact", just the view of those of a certain political persuasion.Originally Posted by TheForgotten

yes I'm an anarchist, but I'm also a realist. keep your head in the sand as long as you want, but the simple truth is someone's gonna kick it sooner or later.Originally Posted by Fekason
The simple fact is America didn't invade Iraq for it's oil, it invaded Iraq as an example to other middle eastern oil producing countries. The message is "Don't try and F*ck with the American economy".
Saddam wanted to be paid in Euros for his oil, this drove up the demand for Euros and down the demand for Dollars. Why do you think the US dollar has been so weak lately? The US did a deal with the Saud family back after WWII, only accept US Dollars for oil and we'll make sure you say in power. So the US dollar is directly linked to oil, the higher the demand for oil, the higher the demand for dollars. If other countries start following that path then the demand for the US dollar goes down the toilet and so does their economy. So Iraq was taught a lesson.
Iran is making noises about doing the same thing, and all of a sudden Iran is being threatened with invasion.
has anybody thought about why, if saudi arabia is one of, if not the richest country in the world, are they not giving massive amounts of foreign aid? considering many of the poorest nations in the world are muslim, it seems strange that they judget the west so harshly yet they don't give a f**k about anybody else, including their muslim brothers that countries like australia give large amounts of aid to
Why you guys complain? Most of you drive NA V6s that drink f*ck all compared to V8s or turboed 6s... last time I filled up with Mobil Synergy 8000 98 it cost me 1.50 a litre!!

The V6 is only slightly better in terms of fuel efficiency to a V8, anyone who buys a V6 Holden for the fuel economy is kidding themselvesOriginally Posted by BOV
Yep, it would kinda be like buying a GT-P for performance.......Originally Posted by Juzza
I can't tell if you're serious or not, but what I'm getting at - if people want fuel economy they would have the 4 cylinder Magnas or whatever.. 6 isn't all that different to 8 these days, and the 8 might even be better in some cases because it's getting Displacement on Demand on the VEOriginally Posted by minux
Juzz, i am dead serious, GT-P's are great for cruising, but for performance...well it's just like using a statesman.
amen to that...Originally Posted by Juzza

We should all put together funds and go fill up a tanker over in Saudi Arabia and bring it back to Oz as our own private fuel supply... :P
The funny thing with 4 cylinder cars is, that they're usually no more fuel effienct than the larger ones.
Its just that they r smaller, dont have to pull as much weight and the fuel tank is half the size. hence the reason people think they're fuel efficient.
No fuel driven engine is efficient.
My other half's mirage gets the same milage as mine.

How can you say the v6's drink almost as much as the v8s?
In **************** last/this month they did a v8 calais fuel test, On the freeway they managed to get it to like 10L/100km, WTF is that? thats almost what i get in my city driving in my 6, freeway its down to 7.5l/100km.
Errr, yeah, real mature blocking the name of the competition, think a street machine magazine that's related to commodores

Yeah I know it sucks the fuel price but its one of those things that we do need.
Btw I get combo round town, Warwick only has 6 sets of lights with a pop of 13000 people and some highway I get about 11 to 12L per 100km. Its got 230,000kms too.
but werent we comparing 6's to 8's? not cammed and tuned 8's to stock 6's?Originally Posted by minux
