Police Lamborghini Gallardo rear
The Italian Polizia Stradale has scored a major PR triumph with the fabulous Lamborghini Gallardo. Stop Press – a second Gallardo has joined the force. Both cars are donations: the first from the Lamborghini factory and the second from an independent organisation.

Police Lamborghini Gallardo
Before you dismiss this PR coup d'état as a media stunt, these patrols have teeth so watch out. The officers are the best of the best and go through a rigorous training schedule, while the cars are kitted out with the very latest high-tech equipment.
Police forces worldwide are always keen to improve their relationship with the public. Getting people on-side is the key factor in efficient policing. The Italians are doing just that. Earlier this year in the Coppa Milano-Sanremo Historic Rally, this police Gallardo was one of the escort cars. I was driving a Lamborghini Miura and the aural memory of V12 hysteria and V10 boom dicing between the ancient buildings will stay with me forever, as will the massive public approval that greeted the Lamborghini police car in every town.

Despite having my collar seriously felt a couple of years ago by the Carabinieri for speeding near Maranello in a Ferrari 360CS, I was more than happy to call a truce and visit the Rome HQ of the Polizia Stradale. You remember in the middle of the First World War when the British and the German troops put their guns down for a while so that they could play football in no-man's-land? Well, that is what it was like when Auto Italia's Michael Ward and I entered the Polizia Stradale's compound. Instead of bomb craters and football we met two of the nicest guys you could ever meet – two of the specially-trained police officers qualified for the Lamborghinis: AS, Massimiliano Finore and ASS, Giancarlo Bravo.

there are some potent cop cars out there...
but they still look like fallic implants to me
I think it's more of a PR exercise then anything. The Germans have some top of the line Benz's and BMW's as cop cars too. The yanks have some really cool cop cars too.
wouldnt mind being in the back of that one lol.
I've heard stories about undercover cop cars around here, Gold Stateman slammed to the ground with 20"s among other things
alot of the undercovers in nz just happen to be HSV's or R8 clubsports, with the ocaisonal falcon, all in all, some very nice cars.
I remember the day I saw the Red & Blue Dodge Viper cop in the city(Melb), I've only ever seen him once since & he was screaming by me...
Cheers

I recently got the privelege of riding in an unmarked HSV R8(?) cop car - cop wondered why I couldnt stop staring at the handbrake (I was in the passenger seat - dont ask under what circumstances).
I have heard somewhere over near hawkes bay there is a green HQ Kingswood as an unmarked car. Dont know if its true, but I thought it was a pretty cool story.
yep, i've seen all sorts, nissan 200SX's around the central Nth island, subaru WRX's in the Sth island (for the 4wd) i know they had a couple of hot hatches in auckland for a while, lowered, mags, tints etc they used em to follow the boy racers around untill the racers figured out who they were
