Considering the overwhelming response to the religious thread i thought ide throw this up for discussion...
Do those of the Catholic faith, or anyone else for that matter, believe in the prophecies of Nostradamus, considering he converted from judaism to the catholic faith by the age of 9, forcibly, but converted none-the-less.
As hard as it may be, if someone states their opinion it is their opinion, no need to disect their argument and degrade their respone. Just simply say i dont agree and put your POV.

I can't comment on religious thoughts on nostradamus but i can still share my opinion. I think he is like current day people who do star sign's etc. Vague wording's to let anything he says mean so much etc etc.
this isnt church mate, take it to the religious thread, too much religion here already imo o.O
spot on with that comment.Originally Posted by minux

I don't agree with his prophesies, the way they're setup, even if he was able to see into the future they're so vague that whenever a major event occurs, there's a way to liken it to what happened (2 towers, wars etc.). I've read a few books by people trying to work out his stuff, one written around the time of the cold war predicted nuclear death by the year 2001 from the soviets, and generally according to interpretations of his works the world should have ended 17 times by now!
I agree with minux, nostradamus said that in 2001 two great brothers would fall so when 9-11 happened people thought he was right. In reality every day somewhere on the planet something could be interpreted as that. Just an example.
That the automobile has practically reached the limit of its development is suggested by the fact that during the past year no improvements of a radical nature have been introduced.

Drinking and driving: there are stupider things, but it's a very short list.
alright then, shove your religious thoughts up your proverbial and tell me then.
Do you believe that Nostradamas was right or even on target with his prophecies or are they pure coincidence...

As a teenager I remember watching a documentary on Nostradamus in 1989 (I think?) hosted by John Waters. The so-called Nostradamus "experts" made some predictions about the future so I wrote them down on a piece of paper and pinned it on my bedroom wall. One of them was an asteroid colliding with the earth in 1999 and some sort of armageddon in 2001. When I moved out of home in 2002 I threw out that piece of paper firm in my beliefs that Nostradamus is bunkum. Vague words from a madman can be interpreted however the reader chooses.
The only true prophet is my wife. When she says, "While I'm out do blah-blah for me. If you don't there'll be trouble." I know it will come true and she's never been wrong!!
haha. good point. its like many things i spose, take from it what you will and if what you take is relevent then fine if not thats fine too.
i have never really taken an avid interest in "i can predict the future" shit, but the whole "two brothers will fall", the hilter thing (mind you could be interpreted many ways) and other little bits and pieces add a little bit of hmmm....mayb he was kinda onto something sometimes.
its weird, i like to see both sides of a story, i can see how all the 'believers' are enthralled in his prophecies, but when you look at it from a black and white POV its like, well it kinda sounds a little like it but no.

Pick a copy of the Herald Sun newspaper, it doesn't matter if it from 5 years ago or todays.
Now turn to the horoscopes and pick a sign, any sign and read it. What's the bet that it can interpreted to mean almost anything and be relevant somehow to anyone.
Do the same with another or all (the), signs and it will be the same.
Nostradamus or the interpretations of his writings have never (NEVER), predicted anything or event at all. They are simply too ambiguous to have any real meaning.
All the interpretations from crackpots all over the place have always come after an event and then attributed to Nostradamus.
errr, but isnt that the idea or am i missing something here?
i mean, we know he cant predict the future, but some of the predictions have been pretty cool (like the two great brothers thing), there is ntohing else that you could relate that to, unless two giant brothers die or somehting.
i dont believe in the stuff but its interesting how some of the things seem to line up so well, i wouldnt go put my house on the world ending though.
Nostradamus didn't speak or write english.
Some words in other languages don't have an equivalent english word, also any translations are based on the translators skills and as we can see right here in JC (Spelling & Grammar), not everyone is great at reading and writing their own languages.
Two brothers could just be that, 2 brothers!, nothing suggests that Nostradamus was referring to buildings and while they didn't have heavier then air flight and aeroplanes back then they did have buildings.
Geez MOTIV8, you gotta chill out mate...
Nostradamas wrote in a combination of languages, french, spanish, italian, latin...there is reason for this tho. 400+ years ago "witches" were running around and if a prophecy was written in solid language you would be tried as a witch, and the man didnt wana die. a prophecy is a prediction, inspired by divine will...not a "this will definately happen". it is "hey, i reckon that this may well happen, there is no evidence of it, nor to the contrary but hey...im inspired to believe it may" if it dont then they're seen as doomsayers, if it does, its just coincidence.
i dont believe in anything that can't be proved either, but it is interesting to think that someone has the ability to loosely tie things in....

MOTIV8, right on.
I'm pretty sure the whole "two brothers" thing was a hoax, as it's date of attribution was like 100 years after nostrodamus died![]()
the TRANSLATION from some crazy medieval french language (which in itsself is open to varied interpretation) of a passage in "the centuries" reads:
"The sky will burn at forty-five degrees latitude,
Fire approaches the great new city
Immediately a huge, scattered flame leaps up
When they want to have verification from the Normans."
... which, really, has not much to do with 9/11 incedents.
Research a guy called neil marshall, and his work regarding Nostrodamus.
Either way, _Mukas_, the ability to be this vague would be quite handy
I forsee a breath of green horse for you, sir.
Luke.
ahahaha, everyone seems to take other peoples opinions personally in here...i was just throwing the topic up to see if anyone had some full interest in it but it seems everyone is more interested in the repercussions of their comments than the comments themselves...
youve foreseen well other luke, the green horse will be breathed upon indeed...
p.s.this may seem like a ###t up question, but do you know a dan fitts?
