Which brings me to an interesting question.. If I say I LOL'd.. It's like saying I laughed out loud'd..

But I LOL'd sounds a lot better then what I said in the first line..

Has LOL become a verb in itself or is it just an acronym?

Well, I think it's a pretty versitile word, as my brain immediatley interpreted your first line as Laughed out Loud.

I had to re-read what you wrote, because I couldn't work out why you thought you first line didn't sound right.

I think it just depends on what context it's used, as to whether your brain automatically add .ed etc on the end.
