The sad end to my VK.

I'm pretty upset at the moment so forgive me if i ramble on.

I destroyed my Vk this afternoon in a pretty scary accident. i had just entered a shopping centre carpark when the car just took off. I just couldn't stop it and jammed on the brakes. They locked up completely but the motor continued to rev harder. I didn't have time to do anything else but duck my head and then bang. The car pretty much plowed into a parked 4wd which went into the next car parked beside it, then the next and the next. 4 cars all up sandwiched side by side. My car continued to rev pushing against the cars. the only thing i could do was turn it of to stop the engine reving.

It was just horrible and i still feel lousy. i'm really sore at the moment too.

Anyway, what the hell happened? One of the attending police officers had a look under the bonnet and said the they could see that the throttle was jammed open. this explains why the car wouldn't stop. But its pretty bloody scary to think that this could happen.

I'm currently going through the thoughts of, What did i do? How did this happen? What should i have done? Just wishing it didn't happen.

I have pictures but it breaks my heart to look at them so i won't post any.

a similar thing happened in the vh. something stuck open and the engine just kept revving. heavy braking pulled it up. luckily it was on a dead straight road.

Damn, that sucks man. Hopfully no one was hurt in the accident, id hate to have that happen, would scare the living shit outta me

Shit mate, know it doesn't mean much but "at least your alive"... cars can be replaced but peaople never can. Hava chat in the lounge if needs be... PM me if you wanna talk accidents as i lost my car to one couple months ago.

Thanks guys. Forgive me for not joining you in the lounge, i wasn't being rude. I just had a few drinks and went to bed. I don't care to much about the car at the moment. I just glad no one was killed because the potential was there.

out of interest, is anything on the car salvageable, you saidyou destroyed it, but things may be able to be salvaged, was it insured?

Its only insured for 3rd party/fire & theft, so total loss. I only have comprehensive insurance on the VP. Bugger!

As for whats salvageable. the Body back from the firewall is in good nic. LSD, Gearbox, Lpg System and Motor should still be ok. The interior is perfect.

I'll let you be the judge. First pic.

No idea on the quotes, i'll let the insurance company worry about that.

As for the carby, it was all stock.

probably the throttle cable sticking, used to happen in my corolla all the time. its a manual so i'd just put in the clutch but you definitly don't expect it to happen, so it was a shock for sure! one day the cable decided it didn't want to stick anymore so its all good now.

samne thing happened to my mate in his 5ltr vl wagon but he went into a brick wall and parked car at 100ks the guy who did his gas system two days earlier ****ed up and put a wire in the wrong place left the throttle open and he couldnt stop.

how on earth does that happen? i dont know of any wires that would be touched by a gassy that would jam the throttle open....

Yeah, true to some extent, High speed, etc. But at least on the highway, when your just travelling in a straight line you've got a little bit of time to react. You'd have time to stick in Neutral, turn it off or hit the kill switch.

In the carpark i just had no time to react or do any of those things. It all happened so quick and nowhere to go.

They're just my thoughts anyway.
