currently i'm listening to TOOL 10,000 daysawsome cd
The Mad Dutchman
trosal! me too! I pre-ordered it from Trax and they ****n lost my order. When i went to pick it up on the day of release, I had to go to every single CD shop in Darwin, and they had all sold out!! It had only be on sale for 3 hours! I was ****in' spewin'! I ordered it off the internet and got it on Monday! Its a pretty amazing album! If I ever grow big enough balls to try Acid, I'll be sure to put this album on hehehe.
I kinda prefer Lateralus and Euology, but I suppose I've had more time to listen to and understand songs on those albums.
Other than Tool, I'll go for anything that requires talent to compose and perform. (Obviously, that rules out rap, RnB, pop and techno out immediately) Country music depresses me, so thats ruled out too! I absolutely hate heavy metal where the band plays nothing but power cords, there is no ****in' talent in that! You gotta have nice vocals and song structure as well IMO!
Hmmm... where do I start? At the moment listening to Toto's new album. Also have Dream theater, Queensryche, Alice in Chains through to John mayer and Anastacia and heaps old school 70's funk

All styles of music require talent to compose, irrespective of the genre, and all genres are composed on the same fundamentals of music, using 4 or 8 beat sequence to structure any song, the tempo and instruments incorporated are just different. personally i think that "normal" music, singing with guitars n drums n that is alot easier to compose than say hardstyle techno... purely because the resourses are larger and the options of subject matter are far more vast. techno on the other hand, all one has (except mainly Lab4 and DarkByDesign who incorporate guitars etc) is the electronic base, in which they add and sync bass treble mids to compose something that appeals to there specific market. many say that techno is just the same thing over and over...listen to any song 'instrumental' and they too work on repetitive loops of the same 4 or 8 beat sepuence. Each to their own, i know, but to say those who make music that one doesnt like are talentless is something im not so sure about. understandable you dont like the music, this doesnt mean they're not good at what they do...Originally Posted by Baritji

Yay for Mukas!!!
So glad someone said that. I agree 100%
Yes!!! someone who agrees... i try and explain this to others, namely my sister and her mates who hate techno "coz its all the same", when RNB(which is actually not rnb because true rnb is rhythm and blues...which the new gen clearly isnt) is doing exactly the same. 4beat on repeat, then throw some bass and some vocal and bang...theres your song

Sorry mate - When I studied music in year 12 we had a pretty decent music lab. Download a few loops, hit a few buttons in a program like Acid - and you have yourself a hit techno song!
Also, most RnB and rap is commercialized rubbish, and 9 times out of 10 the song means s.f.a to the writer or performer.
Since I have been 18, I have finally realized why almost everyone at clubs takes drugs - It's the only way most people can enjoy such a pathetic excuse for music!
You can enjoy techno if you want, doesnt bother me! Its your choice and your ears that have to put up with it! Its obvious nothing I say is gonna change your mind, and vice versa - so dont expect me to reply in this thread anymore lol.
Cheers dude,
B

Country Rock.
Because Country rocks.
Adam Brand, Keith Urban, Chisel, Alabama, Creedence, Eagles, et al.
motley crue, guns n roses, nickelback
Imports should be melted down cause they're shit.
Let me just add something to this whole techno debate....
Ok, I'm not MASSIVELY into that whole scene, although I do like the occasional track. However, my best friend writes breaks music and it takes him sometimes weeks or months before a track is complete. Sure, maybe theoretically a track could be completed in an hour or so but it would be crap. Just like any other music gen...if it isn't worked on in any great detail its not likely to be anything fantastic in the end.
So Baritji...just because you did a music unit in college doesn't make you an expert on the subject so don't attempt to make yourself out to be knowledgeable when you clearly aren't. I understand and appreciate your opinion, and you have a right to voice it. But while doing so, why don't you try to word it so you don't come across as such a kid.
Oh, and since your so much better than everyone else I wont expect you to reply to this :P
