In my name at 23, i was paying $960 for the SV 5000, at 24 i was paying $890 with a blown stroked VN SS. Just a tip, look into private insurers, although excess is a little higher(was $600 in my case) it saved itself on premiums. Although 27 now, i am paying $457.89 full comp for a VT SS.

Nah i mean private broker's. You can find them in the yellow pages.

However, you miss out on a few things like car hire if your car is wrecked etc.

Mainstream are generally ok but expensive because of all the little extras you can get, brokers give you your cover and thats it.

Brokers can be cheap to start with, but always get a check quote direct from the insurer in the next policy year as they might hike up the policy. Subdue, Ian Berry is one of the better known big brokers here in south oz.

SGIC are a part of the IAG group which is CGU, NZI, SGIO, NRMA, SWANN.

When i was under 25 I used to use Mutual Community as they were the cheapest at the time for the age. I didn't have a V8 but it might be worth looking at. Mutual are buggers for claims/rating points but were cheap.

Am with CGU atm and am paying 440/yr as a 27y/o.

I personally wouldn't go for a broker. When I took my car in for an accident assesment after a minor crash, the insurance guy quickly looked over the car and said yep. I'm insured with AAMI..

I'm sure this guy had a whole lot of things to do, I could tell he was in a hurry. And I don't think he could give a shit if a few extra things were put in the quotes (which they were)..

I would think private brokers would be a lot more strict with modifications (my assesor couldnt care less about my altezza lights)..

Private brokers it affects them more then a claim does with a major firm like AAMI..

    I'd go the corporation personally..

When i had my vt 5.7ltr. i was 24 and full compo cost me about $600 per year, HOWEVER, the policy was in my wifes name and she was 25 when we purchased the car, our excess was $400.
This policy was taken out with elders insurance.

Its corporations that don't want mod's, how many insurance companies do you know that would insure a 300rwkw vehicle that had 19's lowered tinted windows, brake upgrade's, engine enhancements for $600 full comp a year?

Sorry, but i will keep price and customer service over some huge ass company any day

Can i just add, what one decides is their own choice. I have had excellent insurance dealings with my insurer, so i will speak highly of them, i know people with RACV who get screwed aroudn etc. Anyways, go with what your happy with,.

minux i think his point is that they would be less likely to pay out if their bottom line was suffereing. A bigger company is less strict because everyone is just on a wage and dont really care too much about the overall cost to the organisation. As with any small business money is always tight and will ALWAYS come before customer satisfaction if it looks like the company will be folding.
You may be on a good thing at the moment, but wait till they get a few more people coming in and abusing the system, doing insurance jobs on their cars etc, watch their bottom lines drop. They'll start being more controlling and less likely to pay out

Mate, its not like they are some back shed business, at present they insurer in excess of 1000 cars, and in excess of 200 prime movers and 350 Trailers. I can't see them folding any time soon.

not about folding. its about the money they make and the ratio of good vs bad deals. If they are an easy company to get money out of then people will abuse it, it happens everywhere, and when the company starts being taken advantage of they have to do something to stop it.
It happens with the large companies, thats why so many people dont liek them, they are strict on money in situations where people shaft them regularly (even if your claim is legit)

They are strict on claim's. They sent out an assessor when my car was reversed into, he quoted what he thought was the amount to get it fixed, then i had their 3 reccomended panel shops look at it. The 3 quotes were within $200 of each other, the Assessor over quoted. I was told i could pick either 3 of the repairer's which i did. They deal more with businesses then with the public. I am happy there, so it is all that matters i guess.
