LPG/VT Issue
I have a 99 VT Series 1 with factory LPG.
It was working perfectly until recently where (actually after a service) it will cut out while driving (at different speeds/times no apparent pattern).
I usually run it for about 30-40 litres a month (as reccomended on) on petrol.
The reason I think it might be LPG is the issue hasnt appeared since I filled up on fuel.
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I can check before having to take to a mechanic and or any reccomendations for good LPG dudes in Melbourne (Pref East).
I hope I havent broken any forum rules, had a read and did a search for this issue with anyone else with no real success.
Thanks

Probably best in the General or VT/VX section, but no worries.
These sound like tuning issues.. I had the same problem.. Is the car running heaps better on petrol then LPG? If so, you need a proper tune..
Don't take it ito a mechanic, take it to an LPG specialist, you'll get a good job done. There's Progas in Huntingdale who do a good job, but are bunch of tossers. If you're prepared to deal with bull**** and unauthorised work, go to them..
There's a nother place in Lilydale, which are apparently the BESTEST.. Don't get a tune from a mechanic, get a proper one done..
Your car will be like a different car altogether.

I've yet to work out what getting a 'tune' on an EFI car involves?

Ill have a look around myself, but a name would be good.

New plugs, (possibly) new leads or coils and dyno tuning the LPG..
My car was rough, backfired, turned itself off in the middle of the road (read:****box) on LPG.. I switched it to petrol and it was like driving a beautiful car..
After they tuned the LPG, changed my leads and an air restrictor. The car was beautiful on LPG.. No backfires, people can hardly notice the difference between LPG and petrol..

A G Auto Gas Ph 03 9735 3559
Google is your friend.. These people seemed really friendly when I rang them about 8 months ago, I went to Huntingdale because it was closer. A decision I now regret..
These guys are getting my business at the end of this year..

Plugs, leads and coils (unlikely to be changed) are all servicable items nothing to do with a tune.
There is nothing they can tune on a dyno without doing a custom written memcal, its not a carby car not like they can check or change the timing, jetting, etc........

Plugs, every 20.. Leads, every 40.. And coils get changed whenevery they get changed.. They do it to make the tune optimal..

I'm reasonably certain the LPG systems on most modern cars is a carby-like setup.. I don't think it's direct injection like the petrol system..
They do put it on a dyno and give it a tune..
They did say last time that these systems often run too rich or too lean (unheard of in EFI) and the dyno rectifies this problem..
Why not ring up the number above and ask them what a tune involves? That's the term they spruik when discussing the services they offer..
I know is that after a simple tune my LPG system went from ****box to awesome..

even if its not the tune (or not tune) then I can guarentee its something to to with the LPG so will proabbly need an LPG expert to look at it. Which reminds me the last time I had it running on gas it made a ticking noise sparatically from the LPG tank. Like if something taps the outside of it.

all gas systems that work run a gas converter with adgustable screws, not unlike a carb. Gas injection is and has been a giant disaster
