    Default Petrol Prices

You people wanna save money? Fill up on Tuesdays. It's accepted as being the cheapest day of the week..

I work in a servo, I used to work Tuesday and Wednesdays. There's always about a 5-10 cent jump over night..

So do yourself a favour and fill em up them.. It's pretty safe to assume that if the price is high on Tuesday, it's going to be even higher on Wednesday..

    This should be a sticky..

Melbourne Cycles btw.. I don't think Sydney's too much different because pricing is all done thru head office..

Pricing is a joke, amazing how a little jump in oil prices causes fuel instantly to spike, yet when it drops, it takes 3 months to reach us. I understand Shell buy their oil 3 months ahead, however shouldnt that mean that fuel prices should take 3 months to alter?

Anyways, i filled up on ultimate this morning for 139.9, which is cheaper than ULP now...what a joke.

It was 130.9 on Tuesday.. 139.9 on Wednesday..

And agreed about the pricing. Fluctuations of this sort wouldn't be accepted in any other good. And LPG is worse.. From 33.8 in October to 59.9 (saw it today).. It's just nuts..

And when people bitch about servo's. Servo's make f&ck all from petrol sales. The margin is 2-3 cents a litre, without the 4 cent voucher. We sell at a loss to keep up..

The profits come from increased spending in supermarkets (to get a docket) and paying high prices for items inside the servo..

I was surprised in october last year when me and my dad road tripped to melbourne to see a band play on a friday night, driving in from adelaide, and friday petrol was cheaper there than it was on a tuesday in adelaide, i couldnt believe it. I drove to geelong at easter this year but didnt take much notice as i was driving dads jackaroo on gas. Less than $100 bucks all up from adelaide to geelong and back again!!

I paid $1.46 yesterday for ULP at BP. premium was $1.52 and ultimate was $1.57. Its geting ridiculous. Might buy a little 4 cylinder runarounder coz the prices just keep going up and up. The oil companies blame security threats and warnings on the supply lines as the cause, what would stop them from making phony threats for extra profit? The government gets 50c per litre excise plus 10% gst and the petrol stations get around 11c per litre at best. The U.S. goverment have dropped their excise by 20c per litre and perhaps its time our idiot government does the same? Johnny recently stated in an interview when quizzed on lowering the excise that "If the price of fuel goes down again, we will have to raise the excise again" As if the bloody price is ever going to drop below $1.15-$1.20 ish.

I read a couple of years ago that the government would bring in the same excise on LPG over the next 12 years because of the usage rate. but in the same breath said how expendable gas was in Australia? I think they saw the conversions taking place and have seen a window to increae. and bananas gee wizz. i live in coffs harbour surrounded by nanas (not to mention the biggest one) and we are paying up to $12kg. i dunno.

wasnt there sposed to be some guarantee on the price of gas? like a x amount of years before any major hike could happen? Im sure I heard something aboutthat somewhere.
86 corolla seca, SUPERDUPER fuel economy. Funny to think when I bought my 250 bike in 2000 is was about 10 to fill the tank and now its about 15-18 to fill.
So much tax we are hit with here, even working for yourself isnt that great anymore with the amount of paperwork for taxation gst etc.
It would be interesting to see what would happen to gropups such as OPEC etc if an alternative fuel ever gotto mainstream or electric cars went into full production.

yeah i use to work at a servo too, majority of the servo's profits came in from people buying drinks or confectionary IMO...

Gas will be excise free till 2011.
Then over the course of 5 years a 2.5c excise will be added to a total of
    12.5c per litre in excise.

Here in Longford, we don't seem to have these 'cheaper' days. ULP has been sitting on about 142.9 for about 3 weeks now. It rarely goes down or up....Although 15 mins away in Launceston, ULP is about 134.9 - 136.9

I don't understand why the price of LPG has risen seeing that it has absolutely zero to do with the price of oil. It just seems to me that they are cashing in on people converting to gas.

It's a commodity. Like gold, silver, tin, lead and copper. All subject to supply/demand/world domination and any other conspiracy you would like to add,

I shat myself the other day when my old man told me he used to pay 1c/L for gas cos two petty stations accross the road from each other were competing, wish it was like that now, but, its never going back that way

Its like the banana situation as well. How much do you want to bet that they will never get down to the pre-cyclone price. Because people are conditioned to paying $10+/kilo they will most likely end up staying higher than the $2-3/kg they were before. Petrol is the same, always quick to go up with the price of oil, but slow to go down when the barrell price drops.

Its simple, they know that we will pay for it, no matter what the price, we are tooo dependant on transportation. Smart move by them when you think about it. And they like to use wars as an excuse to soaring oil prices, but seriously, we arent that stupid, we know greed is involved, and the oil companies see the advances in the electric cars these days and so are trying to milk the world whilst they can.

PS: I doubt its Saudi Arabi causing the high oil prices too, probable people like that Bush guy, and whats his name , Howard!!! When was the last time Johnny fueled his commodore at a servo pump. LOL!

It's crap... I usually pay $1.40-$1.45 for BP Premium, trying to fill up tuesdays as much as possible (or do half fills to get me by until tuesday).

Considering the govt gets about 65c of that in taxes and other such rubbish.. they don't need to wipe excise altogether, it's only going to catch up elsewhere, but some sort of reduction would be nice.
