Pity Emerton wasn't so lucky. Kind of hoping the ref would overlook his handball because Croatia got very lucky getting away with theirs in the penalty box.

Hope Schwarzer isn't injured because Zeljko Kalac made the best goose impersonation I've seen in a long time.

The Aussies looked very flat footed when the scores were level but definately pulled their finger out when behind. Its a pity they didnt play for the win, would of been a lot better game.

the ref was a hack.... 3 yellows to one bloke, viduka being held on numerous occasions but not picked up, a blatantly deliberate handball in the box overlooked...it may seem one sided, but the truth is in the video...
i cant believe kalac started in such an important game, and his stuff up...ooooo.... he wont play against italy.
it was good to see kewell get a good amount of the ball, made some great runs and the goal.... ### YES!!!!!!!!!

There was no excuse for the holding on Viduka, but the handball in the goal square noone, except for the players near the ball could tell it happened until they saw it on the replay. We have to be thankful that the croatians game is as physical as ours so the false free kicks werent sold.

The croatians are very physical players, very dirty too, anywhere they could they were jabbing/hitting/holding, see that hit viduka copped to the face? How does it turn out to be a foul against viduka lol?

Kalac is just a tard, i was watching it and he just looked uncomfortable and too relaxed, i was waiting for a screwup to happen and sure enough it did, a BIG one. (not to mention there were a few occasions where someone in defence saved his ass because he was out of position). O, and it also made me nervous when a croatian player was running at him whenever he had a kick, it would've been so easy for him to kick it straight into him and possibly lose a goal.

And about the shots on goal - The croatians stopped attacking once they had the lead, they would just crowd their box so the aussies would shoot and miss all the time (leading to the big difference in scoring shots).

When the game was tied and australia were 'flat footed' it was because croatia started playing a more attacking game and instead of holding back and playing defence (which leaves the middle open more) they were challenging Australia.

Game should've been 2-1 Australias way, Croatia's first goal was unreal, cant take anything away from that. And i think the penalty we got we were lucky the goalie jumped the other way because it was right down the middle of the net.

Simon Hill is the guy who was hosting the Ashes on the SBS.. Usually a good commentator..

I just thought that i would point out that if you are very careful when you watch the replay, the goalkeeper dived too early, which allowed Moore enough time to adjust his shot and all he needed to do was put the ball away from the keeper ... which he did.

I know alot of you will say that Schwarzer always picks the right way, but Schwarzer is one of the best penalty saving keeper's in the world, no doubt about it. He has specifically focused on not making a move before the striker shoots, this is why he is so successful against South American players, as he waits, which they do not like. South American players are very good at exposing which way a keeper will dive before they take the kick (that's why they often slow down their run right before they kick it).


I do know how hard it is for Keepers in penalty situations (i'm a goal-keeper myself of ten years). Any flinch a keeper makes influences the way a striker will shoot, and most keepers don't use that to their own advantage.

Sorry for the long post, but i wanted to clear it up, when a striker shoots straight down the middle, it just illustrates that the keeper did choose the right way, but gave the penalty taker enough take to compensate.
