    Default why do ppl complain

why do ppl complain when someone brings up a old post, isnt that what that 'check if alreayd posted' thing is for, so ppl dont post the same thing?

I believe they call it "gravedigging" in forum land
the idea is if a topic isnt on the first page or two, then its fine to look it up under search but unless you have something major to add or announce about it, read it and let it rest in peace

Most people just have a problem with people bringing back from the dead a thread when they only reply "Great, that helps alot ... thanks" or just agreeing, but if it's relevant, and it's not too old, i don't think many people mind.

i'm with RedVB on this one
as long as its not spam, like jimboss said, but if they have another question relating to the topic why not? there's not much difference between posting there and making a new thread

i think it's pretty pointless when someone gives advice in a thread that is 2 years old. i'm guessing that the problem has been solved.

digging up joke threads with a "that is funny" is even worse.

there was one user digging up really old threads in the general section the other night and posting crap in them. i'm guessing he was bored. my tip - check out the arcade.

I've seen people hijack forums with this..

When they post in every "old" thread, it brings the forum back in time.. Pulls all the old threads forward and the new ones back..

In most cases it's pointless.. Like that guy who wanted to move to Aust, wtf was the point??

If it's really nessasary, I have no problems with it.

It's almost as annoying as the wankers who say "Repost".

It's a double edged sword really. If you dig up a old thread, you get flamed and if you make a thread, that was similar to a thread made a few weeks prior, you get every knob head saying "Repost".

the thing is, you don't have to post in every thread you read, which brings it back to the top when it doesnt' need to be.

    Yeah true.

Don't the people who whinge about a thread being bumped or a similar thread being made and say "Repost" realise, with every comment they make, it keeps the thread at the top of the page and only making it more of a shit fest?

I've never really understood it myself. It's quite ironic when you think about it, because they're whinging and complaining about the thread being bumped, when all they're doing is keeping the thread alive, by replying to it.

Threads that or over 6 months old should remain that way, ive come across a few in the VR-VS section where threads are dating back to 2 years and some user is giving them advice.

if a thread is a few weeks old or couple months it would be ok...
Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.

I personally don't have an issue with old threads being dug up. Especially ones that are several years old and are before my time...it's generally the interesting ones that return.

i think thats it good that somone is using the search function and not just making a stupid thread which has allready been covered. Its just when they bring up an old topic whihc has been covered 2years ago.. then say.." so how'd it go?"

i think if you take a wider view of the situation you might think of it differently.

Think of the non JC members hitting us up in google - A thread may be 2 years old, yet you have some important info to add to it and stumble across the thread, its handy to have it all in the same spot.
If a question fits the title of the thread then i think it's encouraged that you post it in there, that way when someone finds the thread they will probably have the same question (which is also answered later in the thread)

From a regular users point of view it can get slightly annoying but at the same time it doesnt take any effort to not click on the thread if you see the date is 2 years old

Yes, but then you don't have to reply.

I can't stand people who post in threads, that aren't interested, in the actual topic.
