Hey guys, I had a lady reverce into me the other day. She was having trouble getting out of a car park (big old fairlane) and i was waiting to go past, she waves me through, asumes I had gone by her and "BANG!", out she comes!
Not much damage at all really but I was wondering what to do now?
I got her name and number and also liscence number.
I have got 3 quotes all around the same price- $400 -$460.
What now ?
Any insight would be great.
You ring your insurance agency and let them deal with it![]()

But what if she doesnt want to go through insurance? Doesnt seem much point for $400. the excess would be half + that.
Go thru insurance company. You dont pay the excess because it was a not at fault accident.Originally Posted by Spilly

if you don't want to go through your insurance for that amount of money, and she won't pay you, try taking her to VCAT which will hand down a legal ruling without requiring you to hire any lawyers.
VCAT requires you to go through a conciliation process first tho, so it can become a bit drawn out.
Ring her.. tell her the quoted prices (supply her a copy), give her the optino to pay you cash, if she refuses to pay cash then go straight to your insuramce company and let them deal with her.
Just explain to her if she refuses to pay cash that your excess is higher then the quote and she will loose out more.
Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.
Had a similar problem. Give her a deadline to pay up. Say I'll give you one week or 10 days and if you haven't got the money, call the insurance company and let them deal with it. Otherwise you are wasting time being strung along. Technically you don't have to do that at all. You can go straight to insurance. Tell the lady if you go through insurance, then she might incurr MORE costs.Originally Posted by Spilly
I had a turkey hit me and he wanted to pay up. In the end he never did after 3 weeks. I knew from the start he never would. He was the most dodgy looking dude ever. The guy stunk of VB.
The fact you could tell it was VB impresses meOriginally Posted by Slim

take it through your insurance & save yourself the grief.
people make all sorts of promises but never follow through
Yeah I'm with greengopher. Let your insurance company deal with it. I've heard of too many people being stuffed around when trying to sort it out privately.

if i was at fault id rather go through insurance, whats to say they give you the cash to fix it, then they make the insurance claim saying that you never paid them?
however in your situation you might as well let her have 5 days or so to pay you in cash if she seems trustworthy enough, then if that fails the insurance co. will deal with it

See the problem is.. if there is more damage that is done without you knowing straight away... ie... say... new bearings... or something. It will be still covered by the insurance if accident related. If she just gives you a wad of cash on an agreed value and something goes wrong... your screwed.. Go with insurance... thats what it is there for.
If she doesn't like it... go with minux..."hey be-arch... ill get all mofo on your ass!!!"
lol....mofo...
aZk.
yeah just send her a letter with the quotes, and give her a deadline. if she fails, go throw rocks at her house
a $400 panel job doesnt sound like its gonna leave any lasting damage. Be a nice bloke and give her the option to pay you cash, and if she doesnt want to, tehn go to insurance
your lucky she stoppedhad someone ram me and run off
wasnt in the car but i was bloody pissed off...$60 to beat it and respray it (i did the majourity of the beating without paint damage, jsut had 1 crack where the paint was weak.. i mean is it really worth running off after doing $60 of damge??? i woulda been like "oh yeah its all good"
give her a week if she seems nice enough then give her a chance. u can ususally tell if you can trust someone anyway.
i had some little shit boot in my rear quarter late last year. got a glimps of the guy as he ran up and kicked the car (i was driving out of the carpark) went to school with the guys brother and got him to pay up

Spoke to the woman yesturday she said she would rather her hubby deal with me which is cool.
I have been quoted:
$480, $450, $400(cash)
Gave him the details today and he said to fax him the quotes monday so that he could go talk to his insurance and find out realisticaly what to do.
As of today i have given him till tuesday!
So thats where I stand at the moment.
one would think that judging by the quotes I am not ripping him off, therefore cash is the best option as the premium doesnt go up costing more money in the long run(and saving me a lot of hassle!)
