    Default Vic's new impound Laws

Idiots at 1:00am this morning in geelong have already had their cars impounded, 2 Probationary drivers 3 full licenced all caught laying rubber down. I say too bad. I believe there was over 50 cars impounded on the first strike last night alone...in a few weeks, no idiots will be on the road...hurrrrah!!

i think the cops should stake out diff reco joints. evidence of abuse should lead to impoundment of the car

i disagree. what if you bought a car recently, discovered it had a busted diff from abuse by the previous driver, and were getting it replaced? not your fault if someone else did burnouts in your car.
if they catch you in the act, then you deserve to be punished, but they shouldnt just look at a damaged part on a car and assume that you were hooning around with it.

impound laws have been in SA for a good 9 months now
my mate was the first one in town to ahve his car impounded cos he was apparantly seen doin a handbrake turn on some grass.... i think it was a load of shit cos the cops didnt actually see it and there was no marks where it happened....
where i work is the RAA local office so we ahve to go out and collect all of the cars off the side of the road that have been labeled for impound, biggest amount of cars in one day was 11 so cops seem to be hot on hoon drivers in particular

Are we talking about the idiots speeding thru school zones (note, soccer mums in 4WDs) or the people out of the way dropping a few skids in an industrial area?

6 were done 4 excessive speeding, 5 for driving in a manner dangerous to public. They are the ones i know of. The latter is caught laying burnouts.

Doesn't matter where it is done, if it is done on a public road and you are caught then expect it to be dealt with. Besides, what exactly are you proving by doing a burnout? Any car can do it.

I can think of a couple of places near my house that the cops could book at least 30 a night for doing burnouts and do them for reckless driving.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz who cares, there's worse things going on in the world than some kid doing a burnout. If they really want to stop "hoons" they better change the fact that half the idols of young kids are race car drivers that will happily pull a few doughies after the race and they might as well ban Holden and Ford from making such overkill go fast cars as well. Then they can lock us all up at night and only let us out in the daytime to go to work in government owned factories :P. The question is where's the limit. What amount of limited freedom people will take before the majority has had enough?, that's something I'm interested in knowing and seeing

    ^^^^^^^^
agree with above, how long till people are sick of their freedom being taken? then again people are resigned to paying higher taxes for less government services as we've all been forced on an endless continual bunch of small compromises.
on a lighter note; theres new plates being issued by thickroads with new slogans such as
    "Victoria - The Nanny State"
"Victoria - The Place To Be Fined"

if the type traffic offences committed by courier drivers i see on a daily basis is classified as hooning, i'm betting there'll be a holding yard chockas full of courier vans and 1 tonners by friday...

When dose some accidental wheel spin in the wet become a burn out? Whats the descretion? This could get messy.... but i agree, lay one up, loose your car...

...burouts are kool for some reason... i dont know why they just are! i dont condone them on public roads but i still like em....

... oh and to airstrike... i agree, this will be a p-plater red zone type thing for sure...

Do a crime pay the time...

Steal somethin get delt with, brake something get delt with, drink too much one night you deal with the consequences afterwards, do a burnout get impounded... Seems applicable to me, But then again....

When do we melbournians start the petition to open the Sandown Skidpan publically as a fortnightly event........... Or ask to get a Industrial park petition for a organised skidpan in melb......

    Cheers

I'm actually beginning to wonder if it even achieves anything. We've had a similar (if not the same) anti-hooning law in place here for a while now, and I see no change in the amount of black marks all over the roads here in Longford. If anything there's more of them....

I know of people that have been caught, but they have been only been threatened with having their car impounded. I mean what good is that gonna do if the police only use it as a threat rather than enforce it?

I believe less than 30% of those impounded were NOT P platers.

To all who don't agree with these laws tell me this, if you are warned twice about your stupidity on the road, would you not the 3rd time never do it again? I mean comon, 3 strikes and your out is fair.

Greengopher, you talk about race drivers doign circle work or whatever after a race, how often do you see this happen now? In australia they have outlawd it as it promotes unsafe driving, anyway, if you can't distinguish what happens on a racetrack and what happens on a pUBLIC road, then you really shouldnt be driving

bloody oath, the cops and ppl say its even for everyone, bullshit, its aimed at P platers, why dont they just say it?

i think 3 strikes then u loose your car for 48hrs is good, not first time tho.

i mean seriously tho, u have to be a bit thick to be stupid on a main road or whatever, eg my dad lives out in the country, middle of nowhere, ks between houses about 2hr outta melb, if im going to be stupid then i go up there, but not round the middle of suburbia.

i think the best thing the government could do is open a public skidpad, 7 days a week for people to be stupid at, if i could go there then i wouldnt have to do what i said above to be a hoon. someone in another thread said quite accuratley, government are opening gyms and sports centers and parks for everyone else, are the drivers missing out or what?

The law goes for everyone, in different cars.. for example, it's a 3 strike system, you get done three strikes, 4th strike is sell of car... if you get done three times in three different cars, and the 4th is a different car, bad luck that car gets sold off.. you don't get the money for it either!

simple.. don't be stupid, don't get done, it will be abused though..

As I say, keep it safe, and if you wanna be stupid, track it!
