Hey all just wondering what everyone thinks of the new smoking laws coming in in July, well in Queensland anyway not sure what the rest of Aus is doing?? Personally....about friggin tiime. Cant wait, cant stand smoking at the best of times let alone when im eating!!

I have no prblem with people smoking, it just shouldnt be inside a building(unless it is a pub or a club) and it shouldnt be around food.

In vic you cant smoke in eating areas etc, they are bringing in no smoking at pubs etc, which will piss me off as i dont mind a cigar or a ciggy when i am drinking.

I can't see how pubs will survive without smoking. Dang. I reckon' most of the regulars to pubs smoke. I wonder what a pub will smell like in the future without the stale smoke along with the beer smell. I have never been in a pub without seeing a heap of smokers. Same with pokie lounges.

50% of my mates are smokers, and we smoke in cars (our own) I will ALWAYS ask permission if I can smoke in someone's car, if no, tough titties on my behalf!

if you guys are in public (for eg: a car meetup) I'll always take a step or two back from the "pack" unless I know im 'round smokers for consideration.. but banning smoking in the pubs? pfft.. no. Next they'll ban alcohol consumption in pubs!

I think smoking laws are a good thing for most public places, especially around food. i am a smoker, but it shits me too tears when I go out to tea with someone and they do nothing but smoke...... It totally turns me off my food. Same people in large groups smoking out the front of our terminal...

But banning smoking in pubs???? Come on......

banning smoking in licensed premises is saying that at no stage when someone is out can you have a smoke and a drink at the same time....LOL.
im a smoker and i reckion this is funny as because pubs and clubs will go down the gurgler, we will see a lot more house parties spring up which in turn will bring gatecrashers and punchons and all that shit. fair enough in enclosed areas around food n that, on train station platforms is a bit much. next thing ya know they'll be banning smoking in public places....

yeah, i know.. I not a smoker, never will be....I remember in uni talking about how much money these tobaco companies contribute to the government. But thats just like giving a bribe. Smokers in one sence keep taxes lower but on the other hand smokers are a drain on the health system. like at all the diseases that a a direct cuase of cigarets. Should non smoking tax payers being paying for that?

1. is a reformed smoker bagging out smokers.
2. getting snot stuck to the end of my nose

basicaly, im all for the new non smoking laws, i do belive that non-smokers should not have to breath this shit in,im unlucky enough to smoke, i wish i didnt smoke,ill give upsoon enough.

rules are, no smoking in pub's, clubs, tavers, hotels, family restaurants, basicaly where food and drink are sold, no smoking

no smoking in sporting events, i.e. you catn smoke in the gabba anymore
no smoking within 4m of a buildings entrance, (this is all public access buildings liek a shoping center)

im all for the governement doing this, but you know as well as i do, it wont stop there

Smoking makes pub's stink but the worst smell when you walk past a pub is the smell that carries to the street from sweat and beer. I would rather smell cigarette smoke any day.

Yep. But my local pub has a small room with about 5 tables and is right next to the pokies in a closed off room with a doorless entrance. So basically it's about 3 metres from a poke machine.

I head north regulary to Moama NSW just over from Echuca and you can smoke at the bowling club in the poke area. Half the people are smoking. Old and young. They banned it a while back but had to allow it again because they were losing a lot of business.

reformed smokers are the worst, they have the "im better than you because i quit and you havent" mantra which really shits me... good on ya, ya quit but how does that make you any better than me?
outside with bere, no problem, getting the beer out of the pub....big problem... also clubs...how many are just gonna give pass outs to everyone who wants a smoke...itll cause punch ons galore, people coming in off the street saying they were in there but were given a pass out, they were "part of a crowd"....i got nothing against the laws themselves, i just fail to see how it will be effective and efficient...

In QLD they have a 3am lockout so if you go out for a smoke after 3am you cannot get back in?

Also where is the tax going to be made up, FUEL and Alcohol! The smokers are currently paying your taxes at a rate of 90% (a packet of cigarettes is 90% tax) so if you think your problems are going to get better think again.

well I'm not geting into this debate, but apparently the federal government is looking to outlaw smoking entirely in australia within the next 20 years, but there are a few problems if this happens.
1) gov't makes too much money from tobacco sales, and in fines from smoking in smoke-free zones ($175 a pop)
2) black market trade will be absolutely friggen massive
3) gov't starts to jack up prices on everything else to make up for lost tax revenue
and these came to me just now typing this tome, so there's probly heaps more

oh, and just for interest sake, NT gov't is looking to raise the price of alcohol in abpriginal communities to curb violence (they get booze at less than 1/2 price we pay)so many racial slurs could be found there, but I'm not gonna do that, just letting you know how the gov't increase or decrease prices to suit themselves or the "political" climate

And whoever asked why we smoke..... I smoke because I want to smoke. Do you drive? That might kill ya! Do you drink? That might give ya liver cancer. Do you ever open the vents on your cars a/c or your cars windows? Diesel fumes will kill ya. I mean shit, water can kill ya in a number of different ways....

We all do things we know are stupid and/or dangerous to ourselves and sometimes others..... I dont see how smoking is any different.

pubs are going to smell STRANGE without ciggies! lol, I'm just a social drinking smoker, feels natural to have a smoke with a nice XXXX, but can give that up easy enough...

with the curfews that pubs are doing, it's annoying, gonig out now for a smoke at 2pm at gilhooleys, and then not allowed back in is freaking annoying, especially as the laws JUST came in and these bouncers are being hard asses about it...
