holden has been around since the 40's or early 50's...

i dont wanna sound like a know-it-all... but they have been around in some way or another for longet then that.

back in around 1860 holden first started out as a saddle making company. in 1913 they started production of sidecars for motorbikes. during and after WW1 they built car bodies for dodge and buick. in 1924 GM did a deal with holden so they would only build GM car, bodies at their new plant in woodville. the 'lion and stone' symbol was sculpted in 1928 and in 31 holden was bought buy GM to form GM-H. fishermens bend was opened in 36.

im only going by what my book says. it says 'XXXXX number HOLDEN built' and i was just assuming it was the major model. im pretty sure it does include all models...

i call it the 'holden bible'. it has info on holdens history, stats on the 'big' car models, build numbers and figures for most (possibly all) models (includes torana, gemini, barnia, rodeo, jackaroo).

im not too sure if it is avalible to buy, there is no barcode on it and we received a free copy as part of a chev show entrants pack. it goes up to VY and i also have an older copy that goes to VT (but im not too sure where it is...

The first Holden body was a one off in 1914 built on a Lancia Chassis.

The first Prototype was sold the Holden Forman Arthur Ling
(now at the National Museum of Australia 2004)

The first production was sold to Essington Lewis the Managing Director of BHP on 24/2/49

It isn't quite up to date anymore but for those interested in the history of holden and what model's had what features and more statistics than you know what to do with this book is great.

It'd be interesting if you could find out what the build number of your particular car was and how that relates to "build number"...my VX was made in late 2001...I'd like to know how close it is to the 6 millionth.

The 6 millionth Holden VX was built on the 7th of June 2001.

The S/N Number for that time is around 750,000. ish.

The info is from many places - Internet, books and photos of cars in wrecking yards.

Dont know about owner history as that gets into the privacy act.... Sorry.

Mostly the only way to get that info is from the people you buy the car off.

We went for a holiday a year or so ago and I saw that 6 millionth VX SS in the museum I actually slipped over the rope that was around it and wrote down the VIN number, will have to go through our holiday stuff and see if I can find it I had forgotton all about it until reading this thread so haven't checked my 2001 VX SS. Will post the detail when I find them.
