Default 12 second 1/4 mile from a Nova!

12 second 1/4 mile from a little hatchback! Probably has about 250bhp in a 900 kilo car though. A guy I used to live near had a very similar setup using a 2 litre turbo engine out of a Calibra. It used to surprise a few people!

    Yeah its awesome,

My mate is building a Datto 1600 coupe with the Nissan 180sx motor in it, 1.8 litre turbo. Also weighs about 900kgs.

    Traction? Whats that?

Haha! Yeah, it's a bit of a problem in a small, powerful FWD car. A Nova with the 2 litre 16v turbo conversion will wheelspin until 4th gear in the wet.

The Datto is rear wheel drive.

I had a go in it the other day as its about 3/4 complete. I was too scared to give it some and I was only in 2nd gear. You certainly know it when the turbo spools up!

Plus, I didn't want to damage the car by losing it, he only just got it back from the panel beaters

Oops! I forgot that the older Datsuns are RWD! I'm too used to smallish cars being FWD.

I used to have a Nova GTE which was just a 75kw 1.6 litre 8v and that did 0-100 in about 8.5 seconds, so I imagine the car in the video clip is pretty mind blowing! Biggest trouble with them is that they all rust like mad, especially as the roads in the UK are all salted/gritted in the winter. They start off weighing 900kg when they're first built and by the end of their lives, most weigh about 700kg due to bits of body rusting away and falling off

The Nova? I'm 99.99% certain it will be using a 2 litre Vauxhall Calibra or Cavalier Turbo engine as the block itself pretty much bolts straight in to them. People aren't quite as adventurous with engine swaps in the UK as they are out here so they pretty much stick to an engine from the same manufacturer. You can still get 300+ bhp out of the Vauxhall turbo engines.

The stickers are bound to add at least 10kw across the rev range. If you stuck a big Ricer style spoiler on the back that would be another 5kw, and a sunstrip adds about 15kw (depending on how much of the windscreen it obscures). You should be in with a good chance if you do that lot
