Default Are you scared of the cops?

Thought id start this topic up. Just wanted to know how you guys drive when there are cops in the area. I get tired of people that do 20 under the limit just because there is a police car in front of them. What do you guys do?

Oh yeah, dont want to start a cop bashing thread here

i dont change my driving at all, if in a 100 zone the police are sitting under the limit, i will pass them. If in a 60 zone where i cant pass i keep my 3 second gap.

People who drive slower are usually the guilty of speeding ones

I've always slowed down no matter what speed i'm doing.. don't know why, I guess its just an automatic reaction.. I've had 2 speeding tickets my whole life, never been canaried or anything, just makes you slow down..

I think if there were more actual police on the roads they would be much safer, as most of the people i know slow down even when they are doing the speed limit.

I am with you on that one ... I do the same.. If the Cops are just under the limit I have no probs in overtaking. I get frustrated when people stay behind them and cause a back up of traffic... I think that should be an offence..

Scared of the police? Nope. They can't ping me for doing 60km/h in a 60km/h zone. I have no reason to be scared of them, especially since both the cars I drive are 100% roadworthy and I hardly ever touch alcohol so no chance of DUI.

I overtook a cop van the other day on the ring road. I have a digital dash and sat on 102-103. He was doing around 95-98 Km/h.

I just drive as normal. But I do feel my gut drop when I either think they are following me for some reason or they pull me over. That's normal whether I am doing something wrong or not.

    pretty sure it actually is

I was thinking about this the other day, as there was a cop car heading same way as me, took off from the lights a bit docile, but kept pace with the bluey even though he was speedin by 5km(ish), and everyone else was lagging behind by a hundred metres or so. cop can't nail you for speeding if he was doing it himself without lights etc

    not scared.
had some interesting incidents with police while on P plates so used to dealing with them.
for some reason they like to stop people with P on the windows...and no i wasnt doing anythin illegal nor was i in something to attract them....i drove dads patrol and mums vp while on P plates.

i like minux will pass them on the freeway while doing 100km/hr if they are doing just under...
i dont change my driving habit around them...just go about my normal business

I followed a copper on the highway doing between 120 - 130 and video taped it on my phone as proof so if he did me for speeding he was gonna cop it to. I figure if they can do it (with no lights on) why cant i. 2 other cars caught on and follow behind me. Im not into promoting speeding but if we are expected to follow the rules so should they!!

Yeah I always just stick to the speed limit. I live near a cop shop and I've found marked cop cars usually go 10 under the limit. They very rarely drive at the speed limit, so I'm always overtaking them..

Cops have only got power if you give them power. You give them power by not following the law, do it and you'll be fine..

because some cops (not all) have the attitude of 'do as i say, not as i do'. and besides, if you were to show them that you were doing 120 - 130 thats even more proof to book you because you are admitting to speeding and have video proof to back it up.

i think alot of highway cops will let 10 kays over slide, they seem to focus on the bigger idiots. well thats what they do between canberra and sydney (from my experiences)

Nope, definately not scared of them, if they drive past me in a 100 zone doing 120 without their lights on I generally ease up a touch.

cops dont scare me at all, i often overtake cops when theyre going slower than the speed limit, the only thing i do different is keep a real good eye on my speedo 2 make sure i dont go over, i've often been pulled over by the cops and most of them have been really nice, coz they show me respect, i do the same 2 them

strangely i have neven been pulled over by cops after overtaking them but often have when they come up behind me

No not scared of them at all.Im pretty much a reformed idiot driver.Ive lost my license 6 times and 3 of them were for dangerous driving. But is after 18 years of driving.Ive been inside twice and have a suspended sentence over my head at the moment so ive had my fair share of grief with them.
I have a 2month old now so i am trying to be a better person for him.
My advice is treat them how you want to be treated and dont bullsh$t to them.

dont like cops at all. been pulled over 5 times in the time iv had my P's and 4 out fo the 5 times the cops have been absolute wankers. all 5 times i have just been driving along at the speed limit and they have all come up from behind me and pulled me over. i think they have a serious power triping problem (not all cops). if im driving within eye distance of a cop car il allways stay 5 k's under the limit and make sure i do everything to the letter of the law (eg, give vast amounts of time b4 changing lanes, take corners overly slow, be very atentive etc...)

    I don't have a problem with cops.

I'm never usually doing anything wrong on the roads anyways, so when I see cops I just ignore them and drive as I normally would.

I hate the sort of people who see cops and pretty much brake to a sudden stop.

Also I've NEVER been pulled up by the cops in my life... Or even see that many in my cruises. Probably because my car is clean, stock and free of any wank factors.

i dont drive stupidly so when i see a cop, i dont feel like i need to change my driving style. do the right thing its all good. i overtook a cop on the highway lastweek. doin 90-95 in a 110 zone, why should i sit behind him, im entitled to safely overtake and resume my 110. he didnt seem bothered i think he was just cruisen with the laser on his rear drivers side window.

    Interesting experience though..

I was driving along at 105km/h in the middle lane and the right lane was travelling a bit faster. It was a 100km/h zone.

There was a very distinct unmarked cop car, interceptors, lights mounted on the rear shelf and four uniformed cops in the car all laughing and joking about. They were going 90km/h in the right, probably just because they could..

I overtook them then. Didn't have any drama's. I was going 103km/h on my digital speedo..

305—Exemption for drivers of police vehicles

    (1) A provision of the Australian Road Rules does not apply to the driver of a police vehicle if:

    (a) in the circumstances:

    (i) the driver is taking reasonable care; and

(ii) it is reasonable that the provision should not apply; and

    (b) if the vehicle is a motor vehicle that is moving—the vehicle is displaying a blue or red flashing light or sounding an alarm.

    Note—

"Motor vehicle" and "police vehicle" are defined in the dictionary.

    (2) Subrule (1) (b) does not apply to the driver if, in the circumstances, it is reasonable:

    (a) not to display the light or sound the alarm; or

    (b) for the vehicle not to be fitted or equipped with a blue or red flashing light or an alarm.
