    Default Internet Connection question..

Alright, I'm on Bigpond (pathetic I know, contracts nearly up) and they capped me after the 10gb right.

So I got my mates account/pass off him as he is away and won't be using his net at all so he said why not use it and not let it go to waste...

    I'm on 256kbps plan, he's on 512kbps plan...

So I'm connected under his account etc. but the speeds won't go past 27kb/s....

How do I get his 50-60kb/s download speeds... Or is it something to do with my line?

Last time i checked, your phone number and account details are interminglied ie. if you have a valid account but a lower line setting, you will be restriccted to that line's speed. Im not sure as each carrier works differtly.

Im pretty sure though that the DSL Login Information is merly a verification of account to wired line.

    i may be wrong.

To put it simply, you can't.

Your port speed is controlled at the exchange, when you get your adsl activated they set your port at the exchange to run at that speed. It's completely out of your control, I'm not sure if telstra actually monitor the port speeds and map them to accounts, or do checks on the numbers. So be warned you may run the risk of getting caught using his account.

Sorry to butt in but I'm amazed, I never actually thought they actually throttled peoples speeds, I just thought they said it to scare people.. I'm on a 10GB @ 8mbit plan and the attachment is my usage so far this month.. I'm really disturbed

all those popup rubbish even if you got a popup blocker setup in your browser its no use...... cos the popups are already passed your modem and get logged in your usage...

There are many ways to go about it man.

The best way and the least RAM usage I've found is a thing call UXTheme Patcher

http://www.llbbl.com/data/nw_uxpatcher.zip - may or may not work depending on your XP Service Pack, if it doesn't hit up Google: "uxtheme patch sp1/sp2"

And you download these things called "Visual Styles", there are thousands of different themes you can apply to XP.

when you apply for broadband the speed you choose is set at the exchange, which is why if you change your download limit theres normally no downtime but if you change speed they have to alter the codes.
as such if your friend has a better speed, you wont see it on your line.
(felt like saying the above knowing that atleast a couple of people have probably beaten me to it )

    G'day Andyman.

Vista Transformation Pack will get your Windows looking like Vista (it automatically patches your uxtheme and does it all), and it's very configurable and pretty safe (just follow the instructions) - you can get it from here: http://www.jcxp.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9580

You can get some nice effects similar to Flip 3D by using TopDesk (http://www.otakusoftware.com/topdesk/).

And the transparency effects I have no idea how you would get them.

As for me I'm actually running Vista lol
