A lot of stuffs happend, Stuff I've realised, Looking through receipts....

Accepting defeat the VN has cost me way to much just over $9k in total, And it has a blown motor & ****ed paintjob.

Going to try to recoup my losses, I'm going into the melbourne RAAF building tomorrow & enrolling myself once again. This time sticking with it.

I've lost a lot of friends lately, the only friends I do have now are people I met through here.

Oh well, I enrol in the RAAF atleast I'm doing something worthwhile, Because currently I'm still un-employed unable to find an apprenticeship, Car that's been driveable for the passed 2 1/2" years blows up 2 weeks after I get my P's and it's the gentlest it's ever been driven.... Self realisation is scary when it all turns out to be true and you can admit to yourself your a Lazy slob.

you have a VN SI.... do you know how easy it is to get a reco'd engine in? Im not talking the ecotec either, jsut a straight VNSI engine...cars take our money and shove it up their tail pipes.. thats what they do!

You wanna go to the RAAF then go for it.... but if your just depressed that the vn has shit itself again then its time to wake up and relise that cars break! Its wether you like it that much you wanna keep it. It's just the engine. The time and effort you have put into the little things is never gonna come back to you, not even close, by selling the shell.

Your car has even sentimental value to me....

Your only 18... doing something with your life hasn't started yet. Get a job flipping burgers till you get back on your feet.. then fix your car and then this will all seem like nothing.

I'm not depressed about the VN. I've just seen the light. I was enrolled for the RAAF once before, And I got my position and I turned it down so I didnt leave my G/F of the time, Worste regret ever.

This is all serious & real. Not a tantrum, not a dummy spit, Nothing. All real.
A lot of personal stuff has been happening in my life and yeah... Lets just say its RAAF or I'm honestly going to lose the plot, I hate sitting at home, I cant find a damn apprenticeship...

i dunno, i say drop in a reco motor fro the wreckers to get it running, find any old job thats gona bring in some coin, stick thru all the personal issues, make some more new friends and save for the ecotec or find a cheap ute and start playing with that.

Hozy you're just joing the RAAF right? its not like selling all your assets and becoming a monk.

Doing something is better than sitting on your ass and getting depressed about it. Join, do something with your time and whenever you are done with it know you have a good background to look for work. Plenty of places like disciplined people regardless of their experience, shows dedication.

As for the car - Its only a car, like you've said, you've probably seen the light and realised you've sunk 9 big ones into a car that has nothing to show for it (in terms of, needs more work to be worthwhile).
If you can afford it keep the car because you might regret selling it, but if its between the car and living life comfortably then sell the car and when you make your fortunes you can buy another one.

i don't know you but if youre after a job and you can get one, get it, but as said above, the engine can be redone, if u wanna stick with the car then stick with it and save from the job, if not im sure someone else would buy it and can do the engine work or something, and you can put your money toward a new commy. just dont be rash. go for a job before gf/bf in my opinion

I couldn't agree more. Mat, this is real shit.. There's people I won't offer a job doing marketing.. Sure you hate the shit, but for 2-3 months max, you could be sitting on some dosh.. MORE THAN ENOUGH to get the conversion.

Consider this. $17.25/hour EASY as hell to get in, I can get you there and back.. You're on $1,000 a fortnight give/take.

Thats $6,000 for three months, of course, there's expenditures of your own.. ok let's drop that to $4,000.. What was your conversion costing? NOT $4,000.

Just helping man.. I dun wanna see the VN ****ed off like that man.

Sounds like what I'm doing!! I know how you feel Mat, I got sick of spending money on my white one, and I only ever spent the money to fix it, rather than cool mods or whatever. And in then end, it was still worse off that it was when i first got it.

Ultimately the choice is up to you, if it's what you want to do, then go for it.

ah, finaly a area i know a little about.

i bought my vn a few years ago, 7k i payed for it, blew the gearbox up 1 yr later
ive replaced the gearbox 3 times now, rebuilt the motor once, done all the sensors, suspension components, yada yada yada, all in all after counting the receipts and that the other week, i have spent close to 25k in 3 yrs on the vn
then it was sprayed with brake fluid, requiring a full re-spray. 4.5k later it might get done,

it is a personal choice champ. not everyone is like a few of us with more money than brains. what ever way you take it, personaly i reckon you have spend way to much time and effort on the vn to just drop it like that. let it sit there for a few weeks, and just give it a good long hard think.

life doesnt give us easy hands, we have to live with what we are given. you will be judged when you a old man on what you have done now. not what you could have done.

Well, this is going to be about as personal as I get ...

I know where you are coming from ... I had a lot of personal stuff go down a few years back... Going through a divorce (just after we purchased an apartment that my parents went guarantor on) having just enough money to cover the mortgage (by myself) and having to put all the living expenses on my credit card so I could eat, and catch public transport to work. This was when I was only 22 also ...

I lost contact with all my mates, cause my ex-wife was a real bitch to my friends, so my only friends were her friends. When we split, most of my mates didn't want to know me ... A few still did though, and I made a lot of new friends from work, and guys living next door to me ...

Rode out the hard times, and boy were they hard... Had the clutch, gearbox, and power steering shit themselves in my Sonata, and things were going bad to worse... Had to debt myself further to afford to fix them as I really needed a car, and no one wants to buy a second hand Hyundai (especially one with a bung gearbox, clutch, power steering) so I got the cheap fix on it done, and battled away with it until I could afford to do all the engine work I did ...

Long story short, my bad luck bought me in contact with an old friend of mine, and we ended up starting a business together.. I put a lot of hours with him + worked through my full time job, and have not only paid off all the debt that I was racking up on credit to live, but have seen me fully work the Sonata (pics of it are posted here in the nice non-commies thread) bought 2 bikes outright, and currently have a beautiful fiance and am enjoying life again ... I am not trying to brag about my life, at the moment, but just merely pointing out that sometimes good things happen ... When you hit that spot where you think of giving up, don't ... Trust me I know ...

Don't sell the car if your heart is still with it ... I was going to sell the Sonata, and the only reason I didn't was because of all the stereo work and things that I did to it (and the emotional attachment as it was my first car where I was the only owner). I have spent a small fortune on that thing, and continue to do so, because it will always have a place in my heart.

I see engines go for sale on ebay for like $300 ... Just drop it in ... it will probably get you by until you know what you are going to do with your life... Then if you want to sell it, it will be easier to sell a car that runs ...

If you can get into the Forces then go for it Hozy... dont worry about playing with the VN ! ... I've known people that would have killed for the chance to enlist... but they were rejected for medical conditions... One guy I know is a tri-athelete and wanted to be a Medic... but because his knee's were shot from marathons the Army rejected him... they're very choosey who they recruit...

It sounds like you should do the avionics apprenticeship thingy, and just leave the car .. If it is something you have wanted to do for a long time do it ... There is no point in living a life of regret for not trying something that you loved... The trick in life is to find something you love doing and get paid for it... Not many people can do that, and are stuck in jobs that they hate, just to make ends meet... Sitting there getting through their days dreaming about what they could have done...

Will you need it for transport or will you be working on a base ... ? If not, just let it gather some dust, start the job and come back and finish her after you save a little... Or get a dreaded loan and make repayments and really finish her off ...

If you do need transport, see if you can work for a while and get a little Charade or something.. Drive it, save some cash, and come back to the commy ...

its a rough patch but youll be out of it soon enough

dont stress buddy, im pretty sure my VL would be worth close to 25k if id bothered to keep all the reciepts. they say a car of about 13-16 years old will start to need everything replaced. thats what i went thru with the vl, replaced what seemed like an endless pile of shitty little things and it does get to you. i dont even have room at my new place for the VL yet so its under covers in mum and dads shed. i looked at it this way, with the right buyer i might get 4-5k back for it as is, so considering that the money put in is worth more to me in the form of the car i was so obsessed with than a few spare thou and memories.
there are pros and cons for both, and youll change your mind 500 times a week over it, in the end youll keep the car and be happier for it.
