Lightbulb University Assignment: Create a Paint Brush Cleaning Device.

Hey all, thought I might make this topic to see if any of you guys have any bright ideas. I have a 10 page Uni assignment due in a few days time and I need to design a item from a list of choices. I have chosen to design a Paint Brush Cleaning Device.

If any of you have ideas, no matter how weird or stupid they may sound, please post them here. The machine can be automated or manual operated, with water connections, etc. If you have an idea post away!!!

Hope to hear from you clever JC members soon!

Fuel injector, fuel hose, thinners, and a roller

put brush in upright, 2 injectors spray thinner from the sides onto the bristles and a roller underneath that spins forwards & back aggrivating the brisstles, then injectors turn off after a minute and spray water to clean it off.

Pretty good, although for a device designed for industrial use, I'd include a return line and a fine particle filter for the thinners so that it can be pumped round and used for several cycles, and spraying water into the same vessel might not be ideal. Maybe a second chamber for a water rinse.

maybe insted of the injectors use the window washer jets and pump they have a more sharper jet which will help in cleaning it

Or how bout you do it how I got taught at trade school? Get two buckets of water, jiggle it in the first one then the same again in the second.
Works a treat and costs nothing.............

Yea, I would get top marks for feasability, but fail on originality.

I reckon you should make this a World Conservation Paint Brush Cleaning Project aswell to benefit the environment for future generations...

Australia has a feral Animal problem... I propose you design a machine that captures feral animals and inserts a stick where the sun dont shine so that painters can use them to paint with. There'd be nothing more patriotic than using a Feral Bunny Brush to paint the Sydney harbour with !... the propossed machine would have to be more cost effective than building a Great Wall of Australia like Nazi Goring did in China !...after the painting is done the Feral animal cleans itself with it's tongue and karks it...therefore solving 2 problems at the same time....

Hahahaha, Funny fella that Sixshooter is.

Semi, this is for the subject 'Introduction to Engineering Design' from a Bachelor in Civil Engineering.

Julie, I would say oil based paints, but I sose there could be a water connection to spray water in the mechanism to clean water based and to rinse the paint thinners from the brushes.

Thank you for the replys, all are helping!

how about instead of using somethign to spray you use like, a spindle to turn the brush inside a container with a ridged floor (to aggrevate the bristles)
One done you drain terps, fill with water and you then remove the brush from the spinning device?
Use magnets and turn it into a generator where the magnets (attatched to the brush) spin around real fast in a chamber with the cleaning solution in it)

Im guessing you dont actually have to make this, so go nuts
