I got hit by a police car yesterday

driving down kingsway, its a single lane each way road, a copper was sittin behind me and turned his flashies on and pulled to the middle of the road.

i moved over to the gutter as far as i could, but the car on the otherside (i can only assume it was an asian female p-plater to not NOTICE A POLICE CAR WINDING UP DOWN THE CENTRE OF THE ROAD) failed to notice them and move.

the copper jagged back onto my side of the road when he saw that the other car was not going to move over at all, and the back end of his ss hit and smashed my mirror.

it must've been somethin urgent, or he didnt notice or something, because he just scooted off and dissapeared into the distance sirens blaring.



i rang the cop shop, and because i didnt get a vehicle rego, or a officers name, and the best i could do was "marked car with 2 guys in it" they said "sorry champ nothing we can do, just make sure you move out of the way when they come past next time hey?"
any further i would've hit a damn tree.

If the police officers had their sirens on, they had responded to a call. If this is the case, they would have replied through the VKG, and it would have been logged that they were in pursuit, and the area they were replying from.

Go to the local cop shop and talk to the officer in charge. If they claim they can't help then go to the ombudsperson and get them to take the matter up on your behalf.

U know, legally speaking any emergency vehicle is not allowed to break the road rules. So this means running red lights etc any road rule for that matter.
Regardless of flashing lights or not. I'd be chasing it up. Go and inspect the local cop cares. One of thems bound to have a little of ur cars paint on it.

This is what they hope will happen, that Joe Public will just say 'ok' and wander off. Push it to the top if you need to. Drag the media in if need be. Don't let them rule the road, they have no right to hit your car and pretend it didn't happen.

Dont think your quite right there.... Im pretty sure any emergency vechile, cops, fireys or ambos, have right of way when thier lights are on and they have a siren going.

But yeah that sucks s0sage, try and get something done, but dont take them to the cleaners. They keep us safe after all.

Put in a report. I did this one time when an unmarked car cut me off around a corner with no lights on. I followed him and stopped where he had pulled up, went up to him and asked why he cut me off. He said he could do as he liked because he was on hoon patrol. So I went to the police station and put a report in. They said they were coming all the way from Brisbane just to book people and that they didnt really like them there either. Before I put the complaint in they were there all the time and after that I didnt see them for ages.

dunno if this helps at all.. but if ambos cops etc run reds, speed etc, they have 2 file an objection as 2 why they were doing what they were doing.. they get speeding fines etc just like the rest of us!
so if one of thems been in an accident, im guessing its bound 2 have been written up and filed somewhere...

Not bein a smart arse, but we got told by our Captain (Firey) that it was Illegal. . . . . I think its more just a general rule of thumb.

well its kinda hard to take a rego down off a speeding cop car haha

but as a follow up to al lof this .. i went into the local cop shop (figured the car was probably a local) and said someone might've hit me blah blah blah ..

the staff constable was a hell of a lot more helpful than the other prick i spoke to and said they'd have the duty person check every car at the stations quarter panel as they came off patrol and we'd find the car that way.

said he'd get back to me tonight or tomorrow...

100% correct, emergeny services used to be able to do it, but since some bimbo had her music to loud and got collected by a fire truck they are no-longer aloud to do it, unless everyone has come to a stop and you know it is safe to go through the intersection.

so to all those who play their music to bloody loud, i hope you need them one day and they get stuck at all lights...turn the shit down!

anyway hope all works out well for ya...jees the cops arn't becoming to popular these days are they, i mean basicially everywhere i go for fun and business im finding alot of people are loosing respect for them, one quote i hear alot is "the only thing you can count on a cop to do for ya, is the wrong thing by ya"
