The worst ive ever seen was in 1967 a monaro rolled on the top of the fence .The fence was like a knife edge cutting its way into the turret and doors of the car. nearly inpaling the driver inside the hopelessly rolling car.The car rolled several times along the knife edge, very spectacular tv.
It happenned on the top of the mountain, the weather etc etc was fine so i assume it must have been driver error. I saw it live on TV as it happenned and occasionally see footage of it these days in a 'days gone by at bathurst' type shows...
Rod
Dickies Green Machine XE Falcon was a beauty.
saw one a few years ago a driver up the top overshot the small chicane before forest elbow and head on to the opposite concrete wall. Also saw once old footage of an old f'coonhitting a concrete wall up the top somewhere and on impact blowing about a square meter of concrete out the other side... it wasn't a bad one, but very impressive!
Was it a Monaro or a Ford?
I would say that was the worst crash too. Who was the driver?
I think it was a falcon that rolled the fence, nealy hitting a track marshall, and also it was before I was born...

not at bathurst, but I think lowndes' crash when he drove for holden was a beauty - think it was at adelaide, when he rolled about 10 times and landed on his roof

i saw that one! It was at the start, then they restarted the race and had another pile onthe next corner..
There was a ford GTHO phase 4 that rolled on the fence nearly hitting the race marshall, but the monaro also did the knife edge death roll...
Dunno who the driver was
but it was the 67 Bathurst...PJ
it was an XW phase 2 falcon Bill Brown i think, the year before he rolled another one on top of the hill
Rob
the worst one i saw was dick johnson hitting the rock that really launched his career![]()
if it wasn't for that we mightn't have had to put up with him for the next 20 years
Apart from the one where the ozzimail car flipped after hitting the commodore, I'd have to say the one that happend yesterday (05/10/06)... pretty bad =|
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

When anyone gets hurt, by definition that's bad.
The one in which Mike Burgman was killed. Front on into the support for Dunlop bridge on (off) conrod straight after a brake disc shattered at 280km/h or so, about 1987. That's why there is now a kink in conrod straight for those too young to remember.
For spectacle: The pile up at McPhillamy in about 1983. I think that DJ won, possibly for the first time after the race was called (cut short due to that incident).
I LIKED Bathurst better when Conrod WAS straight,it really tortured the brakes and the drivers nerves..
As for crashes i saw in John Syvers service center at moorooka a multiple exposure photograph of a race car rolling several times. Very unusual pic. The pic is on the back wall and is about 16' long [literally] of this car rolling.
Rod
I gotta see that pic

For me now it's going to unfortunately be the Porter / Clark crash, we were right on the fenceline when the impact happened and all of us knew that it wasn't going to be good
I'd have to agree there. Remember it like it was yesterday. I still remember how it ripped the tyre barrier apart on impact 'n ended ontop of it. Horrrific stuff. Dickies thru the trees coming on2 Conrod in the GreensTuf falcon was pretty scarey looking too, yet he came thru with hardly a scratch?- go figure?...
Sorry... read the name of the thread wrong... delete this post
