    Default Snakes

As the weather is warming up, the snakes are coming out.
I just killed a 3 foot black snake at the back door yesterday,
saw another one in the garden just now.
Does anyone have any remedies for getting rid of snakes
    from around the house.

As i used to live in innisfail next to the cane fields, we found the best way for them not to get into the house was to always have the screen doors closed or wedge towels under the door, as for outside theres not much you can do but pick em up and throw em back in the bush.

A 22 fixes them up. Where I frequent, there is tons of brownies. I even rode over one on the bike last year. He wasn't happy. The dang thing was 2 metres long!

    I agree with the .22

I've seen a red bellied one last year, as for keeping them out of your house don't leave iron/sheet metal laying around they love it, and make sure no mice are in the house/property. Mice/rats = snakes

yeah ### your lucky do you knowe the amount of ppl that get bitten after running over a snake on the rd they jump up with the heat of the engine as you pass over them thats why if you see one on the rd and its safe stop and wait or run over its head its the only safe way think about it if youy were driving back from some country area to home whats to stop it hanging on back to the suburbs and being right there on your premises

run over them with the lawnmower. the vibration fro the mower usually gets them to come out of their holes, then chop them up. it's how i used to do it when living in QLD.

i would sugest putting things inplace that snakes cant climb over

Well I just tried to kill a 3 foot brown snake at the back door, chop of the back quarter of his tale, before the other 2 thirds slithered away into the garden.

Don't know wether it will die in the garden, or will survive and come back to attack me again.

    Default Snakes

I just know Australia some of the deadliest snakes in the world, and I have no interest in getting to know them better. They scare the crap out of me. I don't know if I wouldn't even attempt killing one of them even if it was legal. I probably would stay a mile away and threaten the heck out of the snake.

By the way a snake gets its heat from its environment. And when it is cold, its anatomy slows down to a crawl, it can only become active when it warms up. In theory if they are crawling around and you throw a bucket of cold water on them, it should almost put them in a comatose state temporarily. This is just a supposition, so do not try this, because if the snakes bites you in the ass, I would deny I said this .

yeah where my parents live in tassie there are heaps of tiger snakes and copper heads, and in all honesty they are more afraid of people and much rather getting out of the way (Except when you tread on em). Now i know this isnt the case for some of those aggresive mofo's like the king brown, and i agree that if you or any other person is directly at threat to one then kill the thing, but i dont agree with the theory that all snakes need shooting.

haha na this does not work, it wont slow them down quick enough and all it will do is piss them off very very quickly.

I saw a fully grown Eastern Brown out the back of town last week. It was on the opposite side of the dirt road I was on facing my way, so I slowed down to have a look at it. I was hoping to get a photo actually, but as the front wheel passed it, the snake lunged & took a strike at the car. It missed as the car was about 2.5 metres away, so I put the boot in & left. Didn't like the idea of the snake possible finding it's way onto the suspension or whatever.

I agree with Garth on this one. I keep several reptiles, including snakes. I get really sick of people bragging about the snake they killed and so on. I know there are some cases where it is unavoidable, but the amount of people that go out of their way to kill them is rediculous. There are plenty of people/organisations that would easliy remove them.

    thats my rant....

My grandparents have a fruit farm in Midura, so they get tons of snakes. If you killing them by driving over them, as we do on motorbikes (sorry Snotty has to be done, to many people bitten when picking), you have to lock up the brakes and slide over them which in turn snaps there necks.
