    Default Holden - Borderline Theft!

So i got my Transmission serviced from Holden the other day and i get a phone call saying my radiator is cracked and will be 500 bucks to replace, i dont even know why they looked at my radiator... now i get the car back and ring up a radiator specialist and he said it would be 180 to repair or 280 to replace with a new one, i took it in this arvo and he had a look at it and did a pressue test and there was no leak what so ever! Goes to show how much bullshit Holden tries to pull on there customers

Yep everything is always more expensive from GMH. Luckily one of my mates used to work from them so he gets me parts at staff discount.
I just had to get a external fuel pump for my car (Bosch 070 VL Turbo/VN V8).
From Holden the list price is $368, I got it for $181. The price from anyother stocker of Bosch pumps, around $190-200

yeah my mate works at holden and he says its bulls*&$ what they quote people there. Way over the top. People put there car in for a service and walk away $1000 poorer for work that didnt need doing. Pays to look around for cheaper options. (luckily my dad owns his own mechanic business so i get cost price parts and no labour costs )

sganra, Sounds like me. $1045 poorer after a service, and the car felt no different, in fact when i got it back from the service the handbreak needed adjusting (didnt need it before the service), so you could even say it was worse off!
I knew it would be expensive, but i thought holden would have done a proper job... Well now i know better for next time

    But wait... There's more!!

    But that's not all!!!

I think you are paying for all the extra stuff they do. Like screwdriver marks on your interior, or dents & scratches from when they park it. Or my favourite. The bent diff from when they lost it & hit a gutter on a "test drive".

how do you reckon your trans cools itself? not sure on newer models but it would either be a sectional radiator or a small separate trans cooler mounted a bees dick away from the radiator. thats why they would be looking there.

yeah genuine holden gear and servicing is expensive... and we know this how? because people are still willing to drive on in and pay them.

    LOL GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

agreed, i got told by Kmart tyre and auto that my detonation sensor was underneath the inlet manifold, and it was going to cost $600 to replace, i pointed to it and they claimed it was the oil sensor, i then pointed to the oil sensor which is near the filter :P sometimes i wonder how hard it is to become a "mechanic" i know some decant ones out there... all i can say is it would suck to be a unsuspecting female who has no knolledge about cars...

slightly off topic, but i find it strange you can do near any repairs to your car yourself without any qualification, take it out on the street and risk the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people, but you cant rewire a single light in your own home without breaking a law... where a stuffup would only harm yourself. sorry for the rant, just gives me the shits.

Dont mention that kinda stuff or the mechanics will be onto it like a flash just like the electricians and plumbers so they can make even more money.

My wife gets pissed that you do the same amount of training to be a chef work twice as hard and get half the money as the other trades:P and they don't make you have a chef cook store and prepare your food so you don't die, probably just as dangerous as the lights really:P

I agree with you 1000%, R & R a brake caliper for instance and don't bleed the system properly, go up someones ar#e and there is no retribution. One of hundreds of things that gave me the sh*ts when I used to be a practising mechanic.

Mechanics make crap money for the rubbish they have to listen to from the public, another reason I left the industry. Once had a customer complain that her glovebox wouldn't open after doing an oil change on her car. Must have been our fault, we last touched it.

the only way not to get ripped by a mechanic is to be a mechanic! hopefully soon i'll never have to take my car to one again, they simply just don't care about your car, it's not theirs so why would they.

So true, i changed the discs on my mates car with no need of qualifactions, yet im not allowed to wire a wall socket in my lounge room or install a kitchen sink.

also, you have to 18 to have a gun licence, but 16 to drive a car wtf!! both as equally dangerous and lethal weapons.

I'll pay that! I also work for holden and knobs come in and don't know what they're on about with their car, so we get the incorrect information to even start diagnosing a problem.
And then there's the customers who think their cars have certain features and wonder why they won't work when in actual fact they were never fitted from factory, cos they only bought the povo pack!

Probably 20 to 30% of "problems" are solved by pointing the customer to the appropriate section in the owners manual. you know thats the book in the glovebox that tells you all about your new car...

the rest would be legitimate problems that us experts can fix.
legitimate issues are generally easy to fix, the hard ones are the vague intermittant problems that are not there when the car is at the dealer.
then theres the stuff that is in the customers imagination
then theres the customer who "knows" what it is & will not be told otherwise.

Automotive Technicians should be licensed, it would help out with the common misconception that peole are getting ripped off every time they have to get repairs done on a car.
