Nah mate i rekon that 100% correct....thats my opinion anyway
The truth can be slander if you cannot possibly know if your claim or statement is true in every possible case.
Example: The scenario - A company does not honour the warranty on a product you purchased.
Through the internet you discover thousands of consumers who have had the same issue with this company.
You publicly state that this company does not honour their warranties.
That is slander as you do not know the outcome of every possible warranty claim made. Even though your statement may be true you cannot readily verify it as such.
Likewise you can publicly say "in my opinion this product is of poor quality" without fear but you cannot publicly say "this company makes poor quality products"
Yes the law is pedantic when it comes to wording.

It's not quite enough for it just to be the truth either, you also have to be able to show that it is in the publics best interest that the information be released.
While most of these threads on 'this shop screwed me over' are probably not libel (slander is actualy verbal, anything defamatory in written form is libel), the forum admin really don't want to be dragged into court to prove that it isn't. I personally think the whole slander/libel legislation is a crock of shit, but unfortunately the courts take it very seriously.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

viv8vic .... when was the last time you heard of any slander or libel case in court .... this was NOT a sook thread... it's a subject that i wanted to see other people's views about .....
viv8vic ... do you realise that maybe you are slandering me by saying "you slandered a company"......
if a company hasn't delivered the service they promised
i don't see a problem with bagging them at every opportunity
it is my own express opinion that sometimes subjects such as these are taken, perhaps, a little too seriously.
it is my personall opinion that if words themselves could simply be shrugged off it would stop all the stuff that gets around.
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
No, certainly not. i am not grossly generalising a company with loose allegations. i am quoting something you wrote on this site which is accessible to all, therefore am not sledging, slandering or defaming your charactor.
if i called you a fruitloop it would be namecalling.
if i claimed you were a fruitloop because you once slept with a koala and coulnt prove you did it, then yes, i guess that would be some form of defamation.
Before I get all technical on your asses.. you guys have a go at me for bitching!!?
Now.. where was I.
Slander: words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another 2: an abusive attack on a person's character or good name
eg: buisness; "ABC & CO are real dodgy, they damaged my item"
eg: personal; "Joshua is a shithead, cause he didn't pay me back my $3,000"
Libel: defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.
eg: buisness/personal - writing on a form of paper either of those two examples!
Defamation: the act of defaming; false or unjustified injury of the good reputation of another, as by slander or libel; calumny: She sued the magazine for defamation of character.
kthxbi!
