    Default Stage 2 Water Restrcitions/ Buckets/hoses

    Hey guys/gals,

Now that stage 2 water restrcitions will be in place from next month what is everyone going to do to wash their cars. I tried the bucket and decided that it waste a lot more water than the trigger nozzle hose. It took me close to 6 buckets to just wet the car and then once i finished it had soap spots on it
???? Is there any efficient way of doing this?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Cheers guys

I remember seeing one old fart watering his lawn when we first went to restrictions WHILE IT WAS RAINING. How stupid is that.

feel sorry for you southerners, we went on level 2 restriction last week. we can still do everything as noprmal like washing cars with hoses, but watering the garden is restricted to odd number house on odd days, even number on even days, and one day total ban.

I wash cars 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. my car has been washed probly 5 times in the last 8 months (but I hose it down most mornings ot get rid of condensation and any loose dirt)

Cut a hole in the side of a 15L bucket by the bottom. Attach hose coupling with stop valve and seal around hose.

Onto hose coupling attach a 1 - 1.5 metre length of hose.

Fill the bucket with water and place it say, on a chair.

Plug other end of hose into high pressure cleaner...wallah...

Washing your car with a hose so to speak...but from a bucket.

I dont get it, they have all these water restrictions, yet people can still use swimming pools, the councils allow dripping taps, constantly running public toilets etc etc.

I bought myself a karcher high pressure cleaner, it has adjustable pressure can soap from a bucket to use a sponge etc, best investment i made, i figured after 30 car washes at $10 a hit, it would be paid for. Thats one car wash per week. Beauty is, you can still use these on stage 2 restrictions in Vic

Did I tell you about that? That is exactly what we had rigged up . Its hard to find a spot to do it though when I cant drive onto our grass anymore (new turf), and the driveway butts up agains a fence.

I've been going to carlovers. $8 gets you enough time to do a mediocre job..

Its so true about wasting more water with a bucket rather than a hose.

Get yourself a cheap plastic watering can.

I use one and its heaps better than throwing 6 buckets of water over the car .

    Use a bigger bucket? .

Without really trying, 2 x 15L buckets is more than enough unless the car is filthy.

One full bucket, plain water, sponge. Use the sponge, saturated, to move water from the bucket to the car and remove the dirt. Forget prewash wetting (though the watering can idea is good) and post wash rinsing with anything more than what is left in the bucket when the car is done. Forget detergent. Chamois dry. Wash wheels/tyres with another bucket of water and a brush - similar technique to the sponge. Rinse wheels/tyres with what is left in the 2nd bucket.

The point of water restrictions is to ensure that there is water available to do really important things like drink and to wash people/clothes/dishes = health issues. Unfortunately, the harsh reality is that the level of water use in Aust. looks to be higher than is consistently sustainable, made worse by the uncertainty of any climate changes. Just have to get used to it, I think.

This whole water restrictions thing is proof that the system is failing. Oil price is another.
