Default Need advice re. remote control plane

    Hey all,

I am thinking of getting my hubby a remote control plane 4 his b'day amongst other things. Hes always wanted one and well he got one a couple of year back that turned out to be pretty crap it crashed after its landing gear screwed up and he only got to fly it once. I'd just like some advice from anyone who has half a clue with these things I wouldn't know where to start. What should i be looking at for a decent 'beginners' plane. I'd ask at a hobby shop but I never really trust people who are trying to sell me something to give me the right advice when they have ther own agenda.

yeah, i think the places will try and sell you stuff but if you go in and ask questions you can learn stuff to ask other stores etc. Eventually you'll work out what you want/need and not get ripped off.

The plane you want is call an "ELECTRAFUN" they're a bit ugly but fairly easy to fly and super cheap for replacement parts , also they come complete ready to fly. The Radio is a proper 4 channel that can be used with other planes if you wish to upgrade. I've got heaps of toy 'planes (37) and fly at a club and we recommend the electrafun to all beginners. If you can find a club to fly at the first time you'll have a much easier time of it but you can learn on your own.
P.S. if you go to a club don't call them toy aeroplanes as some people take it all too serious , they are model aircraft.

Buy him a "Electrafun XP" theyre sold at toyworld and are around $160. Its Complete, ready built and ready to fly. Comes with a spare wing and spare tail etc.. Nothing more to buy. They fly in both calm and windy weather and are designed solely at beginners... Hope this helps...Rod

I have one that ive been flying for 3 years in all flying conditions. theyre literally unbreakable. but if you do break it ,parts are available everywhere...

for a first time RC pilot i suggest a plane with just rudder and elevator control, move up to a plane with aileron control next time..... (dont be fooled, you can do most all of the moves with just rudder/elevator!).
Are you going electric or fuel? For a FTRCP electric is one less thing to have problems with, fuel can lean out in the sky, or stop if you fly inverted or even diving around with too much vigour! My personal love is RC gliding, LOL@the eagles that have met with me in the sky fighting over thermals! Good Luck, you are doing a great thing for your man,

Stick with the Electrafun Julie. Its definatley the way to go. It even comes with batteries, nothing more to buy.
If Hubby is a Rank Beginner, steer him towards dead calm days for flying...
    Hope that helps... Rod

get him a beginners model plane (that runs on fuel :P) - batteries just don't cut it in 'realistic' scence anyway , if he crashes its gotta look real with flames an stuff, but it's not all that hard to fly one, quick to learn

give Robert at Modelbarn Australia a call (03 5592 1592). He may or may not be able to help but youll get honest answers.
They mostly do di-cast and plastic kits but dabble in RC and stuff as well.
