Near misses!!!

last night i almost went up the back of a vx r8,he was turning but sort off jumped onto the brakes hard i was doing prob 70ks.

so i changed lanes as quickly as i could lost traction and mounted the kerb with sparks flying everywhere,but corrected it and suprisingly no damage was done,not even scrapage of the rim..

Does anybody have a similar story???

The only near miss i've had was when a drunk driver overtook on a blind crest coming straight towards me. I had to swerve on to the grass verge to avoid her by a tiny amount. As she swerved back on to her side of the road she lost it, went through a hedge into a field and rolled a couple of times.

I only found out later on from police that she was drunk, and her estimated speed was over 100mph!

Needless to say, drink driving doesn't impress me!

sparks mean something must have been damaged somewhere... i suggest having another look....

Some idiot did it to me at a round about yesterday, he went to go, then he slammed on the brakes...

almost ran up the back of someone the otherday. coming around a blind corner down a mountain road, the guy decides he wants to stop to pull into a driveway on the right, crossing double lines while he does it. didnt see him until he was at a complete stop so i had to stop quickly, losing traction too.

Every time i drive through Hahndorf (5 minutes from here)

Cars pulling in and out, people running out on the street, people who CANNOT park... leave front wheel on full lock hanging out into the road (because sure, there's heaps of space).. stopping randomly, it goes on and on.

It's like 1.5km of road and you are lucky to average 20km/h through there on a weekend... blah

That said, it's much better in the narrower liberty

coming home from town the other day and a white VE was coming towards me on a straight stretch of road. As he was just about to pass me, he swerved onto my lane and nearly hit me before realising and getting back in his own lane

I had to swerve sharply onto the side of the road to miss him. There was nothing on the road for him to swerve around, so he must not have been concentrating. (probably playing with all the new features and not watching the road. )

near ran up the back of a car whilst on my motorbike. i forgot my sunnies and the glare of the back of the car in front was blinding. couldn't see his brake lights come on. i managed to swerve into the breakdown lane and just miss him.

another one whilst on motorbike. 2 cars in front and myself going through a round about, the first car suddenly slows down to pull into a driveway without indicating. the 2nd car hits the brakes and i locked up in the wet and slid between him and oncoming traffic rubbing my leg down the drivers side of his car and near ripped his mirror off with my hip. scared sh#t out of me.

last but not least. on the motorbike again. going up a hill and i was in the left lane overtaking a slow poke in the fast lane. came up behind a guy towing a caravan who suddenly came to a near stop trying to change down a gear (he must of missed the gear). i swerved into the right lane to miss the back of the caravan and the bike slid out on me. the bike started to lay down (my right knee was just touching the bitumen) and i pulled the throttle on, pulled the bike back up and nearly high sided (i had one hand on the bars and one foot on the pegs) and managed to control it. i was shaking for half an hour later. i rode back to see why the road was so slippery and saw a pile of wet leaves stuck to the road where the council had been pruning nearby bushes.

was cruising in an 80 zone and the lights a few hundred metres ahead turned green so i was just following the vs infront then suddenly he hit the brakes hard, i couldnt change lanes coz on the left was a massive truck and the right was a high curb and a fence so i tried to stop as quick as i could and ended up just hitting the vs, he had abs and i didnt in the vk, the car behind me was a later model bmw and his rear wheels mustve been almost off the ground, im soo surprised it wasnt a massive pile up, when the vs drove off i didnt see any damage at all, when i stopped i checked to see if there was any damage to my car and all i could find was an imprint of his exhaust tip in my numberplate...and its still there

I have near misses almost every day, both in my own car and in work cars (a selection of about 10 different models, and between 5-30 of each) but suprisingly, most people can't see the 16 foot long white car. so many different things go wrong, but I've driven all up the east cost from melbourne to townsville, and drivers here are by fare the worst in the eastern states. funniest near miss was just outside work, woman in a 3week old BFXR6 bright orange, pulled up behind me at the traffic lights, but didn't see me, BANG! I flogged it round the corner, stopped to check for damage, then chased her up the street (dead end) and gave her a serving for being blind. she even admitted she wasn't watching

drivers in townsville are the worst? tell me about it... it's an interesting place to start driving in... i think i'll be prepared for just about anything except for maybe people who indicate, obey basic traffic laws, and can accelerate to a 60-100km/hr speed limit within a kilometre...

Almost ended up the back of a ford once. NONE of the breaklights were working and I had only just started driving. Slammed on the breaks and stopped with plenty of space to spare.

Few times people cutting me off when theyre stuck at the lights behind a car turning right and dont bother checking their mirrors before changing into my lane.

Once some old guy swung his door right open (into my lane), just missed that because I was going 70 and pretty much right there when he open the door.

Another time almost ended up the back of a taxi. Slammed the breaks on, bit of a skid, and I'd say I had about 1cm between us.

So I've had a few, still no accidents though

about a month ago i was coming down wanneroo rd near yanchep which is notoriously bad for fatal accidents..

it was dark and on a part where the rd is quite narrow, i was going through a bend when a car going the other way whipped past me so fast it scared the shit out of me. i think it was i black vr and it was going so fast i dont think they could hold it around the bend and had started to end up on my side of the rd. we got showered with stones and stuff which put a few chips in the windscreen. would hardly have been any space between us, if i wasnt in a hiace he probably would have taken my mirror off.

earlier the same day i came over a hill and there was a grandpa in a grand cherokee on my side of the rd coming straight at me while overtaking a truck, we had to pull off the rd onto the gravel to let him past... he did give me a polite little wave on the way past though

heh, almost cut off some hyandai into a concrete wall ( didnt check my blind spot before changing lanes ) in my dads car too!

nearly wandered off the freeway twice ( 3AM long night, didnt want to sleep on the side of the road, wanted to go home, 40k drive. big mistake ) that was a mates car ( he was fast asleep in the back seat )

nearly tail ended a Mitsi lancer wagon and a AU wagon, they seem to stop on a dime, weird. both my car.

almost ran my dads car into the back of my brother once too, that was before i had that driving course, abs saved me that day.

funny story to that acctually

during my driving test i was revesing into a driveway to do a 3point turn, scrapped someones fence.

after i did that i just relaxed and thought nah he definitly wont pass me now.

10mins and a couple more exercises later, i was passed with marks in flow, and a small note about parking out of the way of driveways. not bad considering i never took a instructed lesson ( just drive my grandfather around a bit mostly )

had one yesterday in doncaster wrx vs camry right outside donny westfeild on the broadside of williamsons rd lights to tgi fridays you can hear it all you liek and for some ppl it never sets in and for the first time yesterday i almost did it myself watching a hwy patrol police officer directing around the accident bloke in the vx infront thought ill have a longer look i just about saw the inside of his boot with having to break so hard

its all well and good to have police direct traffic but ppl pay too much attention to the accident and not the police and thats where more accidents and stupid things come of it

I got a near miss that end in me getting hit.

I got slammed up the ars by a flat bed truck on the Notorious Sextons Hill in Tweed.

They had sum road works happening and all off a sudden it started to back up, i just stopped in time just missing a brand new camry 1-2cm if that, but the truck behind me didnt, lifted my gurlfriends mums EB wagon off the ground n gave us a slight spin enough to keep in the lane.

In the end he didnt pay for the damage coz he claimed bankruptcy n had a really bad drivin record. We hunted him down but couldnt find him ...

Only needed a new tailgate n bit of a beating but still...

shouldn't you have moved over anyway to let him in so traffic can flow properly and not cause congestion.
anyway i had some wanker not move over this morning, funny how trying to touch side mirrors can frighten some people.

i just remembered another one.

i was out on a bush highway in a fully loaded semi. a came up over a rise at full speed to find a traffic control in the middle of the road with a stop signal. i stood on the brakes to find the trailer brakes had failed. i swerved into the wrong lane to miss a couple of cars that were stopped. the traffic guy was shitting himself. all he could hear was the deafening sound of the air brakes on full with the engine brakes. he was too scared to jump out of the way and i ended up at a stop with him no more than a meter from the front of the rig, i could barely see his head over the bonnet. his eyes were as big as saucers.

i actually had my bum off the seat standing on the brakes. i thought i was going to go over the top of him, obviously he did too. stupid road workers didn't put a warning sign up indicating that there was road works on or that traffic might be at a stop.
