My dad is actually considering one of these... Aurion or VE Calais... How is there even any comparison??
He's waiting for the supercharged (or turbo??) version which wont be out till later next year.
I actually dont mind them... For a toyota... But still prefer the VE, especially the Calais
But hey, if he got it, I'd still maybe drive it every now and then... especially the supercharged one![]()
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

Well it's alot faster than the VE so that's something, if you lived in a city it would be more sensible than a VE, faster, more efficient equals better I guess![]()
just going on paper figures? hmmm.
The exterior is ok, much more pleasant to look at than the Camry (Aurion is based on the Camry platform). But the interior... no thanks...
Back in the hope things have settled down...
Guy i play darts with said these babies have been selling like hot cakes.

Not surprised, it's going to kill the 380 (as if it wasn't already dead). The VE is still going to have a market, some people will only buy a commo on principle, some people like RWD, some people want the bigger car, and some people think they just look sexy(just not in white thanks).
I think there's a good market for both... just not the 380 lol.

yeah, the 380 was a bit of a blunder. sif compete with the big boys
be interesting to see if the aurion lives up to the hype.
Love the look of it, but I'd rather a VE (minus bugs and problems)
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
i've seen quite a few driving around... i don't know why, they're ugly as sin, and nowhere near as fun
Yeah it's still just a beefed up camry, and they have never been an attractive car. Especially the "Sportivo" models with all the kit... ergh... they remind me of a little kid wearing dad's shirt - it just doesn't fit.
Still, it's powerful and economical, and will sell on those two points alone, but I don't see that it will be affecting VE sales toooooo much. Torque steer is evil..

Yeah man, gota love the FWD! NOT! Stuff that for a joke.
Heh..try kicking the auto trans back 2 gears onto 5500rpm... not good on bumpy road or around a corner... you won't be going straight for long(yes my liberty is 4WD but its about a 70:30 front:rear split, so i do get torque steer, especially dropping it onto high revs).

i love the aurions especially the TRD version, i didnt think they where released yet

i think thats pretty cool
If you live in a country town in WA with an airstrip right on the outskirts you might want to cruise past on Saturday. I'm unable to say exactly where it is.
There will be the following cars there:
VE Omega
VE Berlina
VE SS V
Falcon XR6
Falcon XR8
Aurion Sportivo ZR6
Aurion Prodigy
Huyundai Grandeur
Mitsubishi 380 VRX
Oh and a VN Lexcen and 93 Camry V6.
My Dad was invited but doesn't wish to go ( had a stroke and is embarrassed by his condition) so he asked if I could go instead.
I will just be a spectator. I was told not to tell anyone where it is going to be but I was not told I couldn't say that it was happening somewhere.
I'll ask for a drive or at least to be a passenger in the cars.
Nearly forgot, it has been organised by a Toyota dealer.
I might see if I can keep up with any of them in the VN. If they agree I'll try the Camry against the Aurions as well. I will not tell them it's not standard.
I assume they are going to test performance, maybe not.
Could be interesting. I'll post after I have been.
I'm actually excited about it.

I'll be taking one for a day or two some time very soon.
Can't wait to see what they're like and how they drive after all this hype about 'the big aussie 6 going in a different direction' (maybe I'm supposed to drive around in reverse? haha)
I'm starting to get used to the shape. I like the Sportivo(??) The one with the body kit. My preference is still with the VE though
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

No SS-V, No Falcons and no Granduer.
They basically just drove them up and down and through some witches hats and took notes. I got to be a passenger in the Mitsubishi and the Toyotas but they wouldn't let any of us in the Commodores. The 380 and the Aurion are superbly quiet and comfortable and feel very punchy when the boot is put in. I still don't know what a VE is like to ride in.
None of the drivers were very skilled and drove very slowly through the witches hats.
After the slalom they went to the other end of the airstrip and did some short drags. The Aurion appeared to win every race. Myself and the other five spectators were not allowed to go down there.
When they came back up I asked if I could run the Camry against the cars.
The Hollden dealers said no, Mitsubishi no but Toyota said yes.
I lined up with the Prodigy and when we took off I got a good lead on him off the mark and was increasing the gap. I got to about 120km/h and looked to see where he was but he had stopped and was turning back.
When I got back, everything got packed quickly and the Prodigy driver said because the car was a Demo he didn't want to thrash it.
So really it was nothing exciting but I have come away thinking the Aurion and the 380 are both very good cars and that my wife's Camry can beat a prodigy.
Of note the Aurion is as big as the Commodore and uses the Camry's doors but nothing else. The Aurion and the Commodore are very similar in looks and could be confused with one another from a distance.

Just as ugly as the VE.
