Default Speed camera in wheely bin - are they in use in Qld or anywhere else?

After filling up last night, i booted it off the line going out of the servo, i noticed a flash coming from a wheely bin, or what looks like a wheely bin.
i looked down at the speedo and yep, i was over.
is anyone aware of whether speed cameras in wheely bins are being used in Qld?
they have been tried down south for a couple of years now, i dont know if they're being used down there yet either...

haha cameras in wheely bins... hadn't heard that one. would be funny if they are being used, just not for you i suppose. and i agree, if you see one, make sure to dispose of your rubbish appropriately.

They had one here I think in SA... was in the newspaper, heard nothing more about it though. Was ridiculously expensive.... But I wouldnt worry too much mate, just paranoia I think.

If I ever came across one, I would destroy it... and run like mad

i will be going pass it again on the way home from work to see if its still there, if its gone it'll be suss because last night was not bin night.
if it's still there, i'll be looking closely for a hole for the lens.
when it was on the news, there was a huge uproar from the public for this new decietful money-grabbing method.

In western austrlia they said about "having them in wheelie bins", but they actually just cream colour boxes with the cameras in them.... seen a couple of them around the city centre and also they hide them near bus stops etc, harder to spot then a normal speed camera.

lol bins on cars anywhere fact is there gonna remian to be around

i can give you one of the funnyest ituations about speed camera trialing

a friend was wandering around the ghard rubbish with a battery tester as he just needed a new jump starter battery for things and didnt really want to go the whole hog of a brand new battery

anyway he found one with some spark left a lil way burried in this hard rubbish pile 3 days later a big KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK on the door local laws officer vic rds inspection officer 2 uniformed police incase it was intentional and an arrest was goign to be needed and a rep of the camera compant all asked nicely ummmm can we have our speed camera back thanks

my mate looking baffled said if i had it id give it to you

local laws person said the tracker says its here sir have you rumbled around anyones hard rubbish lately in xxxxx street

my mates like yeah ??? still puzzled

ok did you happen to grab anythign down worry you wont get fined or in the deep for this

he's like yeah ??? still puzzled

can we see the rubbish sir

    yeah no pbz come in
anyway they spot the battery check to see if the camers ok with some light they shine into it to make it flash and said thanks and left after turning the tracker off

my mate call me i come over we look baffled to each other about it once he managed to convince me it was tue cause while i was there the uniform came back and explained more as well as saying we just thought it was going to be destroyed hence why we came too and then left with a sorry LOLOLOL

they do get sneakier every year. first they started of in vans with the back door up, now they work throught the window, they put ladders on the roof to make it look like a work van park them just behind bridges, between trees etc. nothing to much to get your hard earned cash for them and yet they say it's not revenue gathering, yeah right!

If I ever saw one I would steal it without hesitation, very expensive and would be doing the community a favor (wasting tax money on concealed cameras when they SHOULD be using brightly painted ones to remind motorists to drive safely), but after reading smokey_dj's story about how they have a tracker in them shit don't think so now, then again it would be stupid to leave something so expensive without having a way to find it if someone stole it.. lol

I know for a fact they *were* trialling in the country/more remoter areas they put a hay bail on the side of the road with a camera in it.

i think they only used it once or twice because there was some problem with the legality's of it.

meh soda bulbs will solve this problem, if they can rip apart a brick letter box then a camera in a bin will be no problem
