Default THIS IS BULLSH*T! one number plate gone!

as the title says, one of my number plates was stolen today, was at highpoint shopping centre, on the top level (because i thort it would be better then under ground) and some bastard stole my front number plate. and with spending alot of money lately (fuel, fix car, formal, saving for xmas and birthdays) with no job, its all i need and it will take upto 7-10 days to get the same plate sent out to me and i cant go without a car for that long :|.... so im going to get a new set of plates tomorrow morning... (cost the same as getting 1 of the current plates).... but i dont get it? why take 1? why not 2?.. stupid f**kers just annoys me now that i have to spend even more money (its not that much but you know) CRAP CRAP CRAP! hahaha oooo well this shit happens i guess..... just wanted to say to make sure your number plates are bolted or held in with the one the one way screws.. ... exspecially when going to highpoint hahaha... and ive called the cops to make sure i dont get done for speeding or petrol run or something, and said just dw bout it bla bla bla just go get a new set.... hmmmmm ok im done with that, just wanted to tell people make sure you get them held on tight haha ...but atleast it was only my plate true? and not my whole car hahaha... have fun people..
and just wondering, if i drive my car can i get done bad? or if i just say i called the police and told them and im going to get new one's, what would they do? and i know its unlikly but could i get a fine even though im going to get new ones? or points or anything? i havnt got any points or fines yet and its the last thing i need atm.. thanks heaps in advance

definetly tell the cops, see what they say, you could be in for some fines otherwise

i've heard of plates being stolen, i remember around the western suburbs at all the train station carparks the cops were putting on those one way screws for free

Damn bad eh? The best thing is to tell the cops...

My brother had both his plates knocked off in my quiet street possibly to do a crime and the cops rang him up next morning asking him to come and pick up his plates! Dunno what happened re. theifs.

That's really crap! A guy I know got both his plates stolen. He got pulled up by the Police a few times but no fines or anything when he explained it to them.

Holdenchik said that all the carparks at Highpoint are covered by CCTV so it may be worth talking to the management to see if you can get the security tape for the Police.

I'll be getting those one way screws once i've got new plates on. Someone suggested pop rivets to hold plates on, but a cordless drill would dispatch those in about 2 seconds flat (if the thief can be bothered to carry one!).

(i dont think my car is unroadworthy but i dont wnat to risk it)

yeah mate its not worth it to be honest, they wont do anything. been told in the past by the cops that they cant do anything these days because the law is helping people get away with stuff.... just better of paying the 20 something buks and save my time chasing it up, thanks anyways mate =]

Look soon as a plate goes missing you can bet $1 000 000 someone is about to use your good name to do something bad ! I hate to say it but many years ago I found (so called friend) was using some poor bastards plates(he had the same make of car) and was knocking off places with the false plates on the car just incase they had to make a get away! Well eventually they got him and he got what he deserved !!! I hate thieves !!!

If it was a fuel run I am guessing they would have at least popped his fuel cap hell may as well take the fuel then and there .

As far as I know, you can get away with one plate while getting a replacement as long as its on the rear of the car.

oh what thats really bad, that they stole one thats abit odd, maybe they couldnt get the back one off or the front one was more hidden so they could take it without anyone seeing them
lucky they only stole that otherwise you might be spending bit more money for sure
and i think you should be right driving round with one plate but maybe go get a thing from cops so if you get pulled up you got proof or sumin

I have been thinking lately about using security torx screws. Not torx. Torx is just the star bit but security torx is the same thing except it needs a hollow torx bit. Very difficult to get off without the proper bit.

I'm not sure either, but I'm sure if it's visible enough the cops wouldn't pick on you, just explain your other one got nicked.. people with them on trailers all the time

    EDIT: Thank you Mr. HoZy

Yeah. Ordinary torx screws could possibly be unscrewed using a small flat screwdriver but security torx you can't use screwdrivers.

I have only seen threaded torx screws but I'm sure they would come as self tappers.

An ordinary 5x4 foot trailer doesn't require proper number plates. We use chalk on ours.

Anything bigger than 5x4 requires the trailer to be registered. That's why you see many trailers with chalk or cardboard plates.
