They probably will ask some mechanically based questions to test your knowledge
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

was that just like the basic principle of how a 4 stroke engine works, what different part do and what they are needed for etc?

stuff like welsh plugs, thermostats, glow plugs, uni-joint, it was mainly the smaller stuff to source out people with a real interest and those who just flicked through a book quickly.

you shouldn't have to point out what parts are their cause thats why you're getting an apprenticeship i presume?
background knowledge is a help. but most bosses will want a person that is prompt, can listen and remember very well, and do exactly what they are told. afterall you are their little b**ch for the first year until you can prove you have got the incentive to take on something bigger. are you going for a job at a dealer or private?
Its a common miss conception that people actually use their brains before they speak.

Seeing as this was your original question, why not post up how the interview went, what questions you were asked etc so that others can know what they may expect in a similar interview.

Good point, well there was a panel of 3 people and they just had sheets of paper with questions and they took it in turns in taking questions, questions i got where, Why would you like this job?, What would you contibute to working here? What qualities do you display? Whats your understanding of OH & S? Are you prepared for working in confined, smelling places? Are you prepared for overtime? Are you committed to going to tafe. thats about as much as i can remember. I didn't have to identify any parts of a car aswell.

Anyhoo the people were very nice and we had a nice pleasant discussion and i wasn't nervous>(luckily), when i got there they showed me around the depot to give me an idea of what happens there, theres a lot of other council divisions in the same area.

In the end im happy i got the job and now i don't have to go to school next year
b.t.w the councils fleet car are mainly made up of commodores, and i get to drive them when i get my p's
