    Default bored cops

The other day i was out for a cruise when a cop car pulled into the street behind me. he followed me for about 10 mins tryin to get me for somethin and when he realised i wasn't gonna do anythin wrong he pulled me over for a roadworthy check.
Now this had already pissed me off but then he sat there for a good half an hour going over my car. Of all things I got done for being 2mm too low and for having my SPARE tyre on! I had gotten a flat that very day and being a sunday no tyre joints were open. I showed him the flat in the boot and the bastard says ' Oh you really do have a flat we thought you must have been doin burnouts'. I was f**ken fuming.
After all this a $180 fine and a major defect so i need a new windscreen a lifted car and a new rear tyre to pass the roadworthy AND 100 bucks for the roadworthy. Is this fair or is it just bored cops with nothin to do on a quiet sunday?

    Tough break.

I've been pulled over a few times but never had anybody say anything about my windscreen, even though if you look its pretty obvious.

Not all cops are ****s though, been let off through them being in good moods/whatever. Got clocked at 110 in an 80 zone and got off with a warning, also on youtube theres a video i posted of a cop who showed up on a CT cruise when we were down on Lorimer Street and was asking what we were doing, etc, got names and such.

He then proceeded to light up a cigarette and waited around for a bit until his colleagues had finished, then on leaving one of the guys said "do a burnout" so he gets in the divvy van and puts the foot on the brake and gives the accelerator a little bit of a push. Nothing happened of course, but was just a weird that a cop would do that

But yes, some are ****ed and bored and need to get over it.

Sorry, but these are all easy things to abide by bud, they are just doing what we pay them too.

Get it fixed, pass the roadworthy and no issue, at least if you didnt know before hand what was wrong you do now.

Fair enough minux, but my spare tyre had full tread, but he said that i wasn't allowed to use it because it was 15" and my others are 18" and i need an 18" spare. So I asked him if space saver tyres were 18" and he said it's different, thats it!
And my windscreen isn't cracked or chipped or anything, and I didn't get pulled up about it by the cops, the roadworthy joint said i needed it cause theres a fine scratch from my windscreen wipers. It's just a bitch knowing theres another thing that 'needs to be fixed' when i bet ya half the cars on the road have a less than perfect windscreen on em.

The law states it must be at a certain height. Its like getting caught for going 1 to 2 over the speed limit. You're still not complying by the rules, even if it is only fractionally, it is still not meeting the minimum required height

with the spare wheel issue, both wheels on each axle must be the same size.

so you'd have to have a extra 15" at home, so you can chuck 2 15s on the front or back(id go front so they dont say ur doing burnouts)

for the windscreen, maybe try giving it a polish, how deep is the scratch? is it on the drivers side?

when i got my car roadworthied for rego, we took it to a mate of dads, who knocked the windscreen for light scratches on it, dad having been a registered roadworthy mechanic a few years back thought it was crap, as he would've passed it, he knocked my uni joints for no rubber boots, yet there was no excess play in them, and he knocked my brake pads for not enough pad, but there was enough to be roadworthy.

mechanics are getting picky on things these days, as they can get into a lot of shit if they get caught out passing unroadworthy cars. its not worth the possible problems for them.

defected for 2mm below legal is a bit mean, he couldve given you a warning, but either you pissed him off somehow or he was in a bad mood or just wanted revenue.

2mm Below is pure bullshit. Its not like someone has their car lowered 2mm below legal- most people get them lowered and say to the mechanic 'low as legal'. springs sag, bushes wear, give a warning and most people are happy to know.

I didnt know either that my spare is not legal- its 15", my wheels are 18". Once again, when i got them I asked for legal please, no-one said anything. Its not ignorance- its the fact the laws are often obscure and hard to find or understand, and police have to realise that giving a fine is intended to be correcting a behaviour, nothing more.

I honestly didn't know you could polish a windscreen. I just assumed it would make it really glarey. (yes i know thats not a word)

With the shitheaps rolling around here i guess no-one in Tassie can be arsed defecting anything.

You should go into vicroads and leave the car at the same height and see if they pass you. Wouldn't be surprised if they do.

julei there are no cars that are undefectable its just some like most ppls on here are more obvious wen the vy's first came out they had 9 instant defects and that was straight off the production line. so no car is undefectable even if its stock standard. its just we get picked on wen we modify our cars coz the cops see big dollar signs coz they know that we will pu it back to stock pass it through regency and then put everything back on it to get defected again. its a vicious cycle and all the cops care about is the revenue raising

some things that people get defected for are just ridiculous, i mean even after the cop saw u had a flat he still gave it to you , right??. why do they have to follow you for five mins .. i once had an experience where i was cumin out of a side street, cop went passed stared at me and i turned the other way after i turned around again realising i had to get sumthing from a mates they had already turned around ...then again to be able to follow me all the way to a mates house till i turned into their driveway, then they stopped and turned on thier light and i asked if there was a problem n they ended up waiting at the end of the street for 5 mins...some things are just stupid i have to say

You can whinge and moan about unfairness, bullying, harrassment, targeting whatever by the police all you like, but at the end of the day, the laws the law.

And if they can book you for it and they do...Well, tough. Take it on the chin, and deal with it. All the whinging in the world isn't going to change it.

But it's not like the police are just making up these laws on the spot. Fact of the matter is, it IS the law. I know it's not fair, but like I said before, it's not going change. There's nothing we can do about it but try not to miss these minor defects. As hard as that can sometimes be.
