Talking to our fuel rep yesterday, he tells me east coast may have another Ultimate shortage due to the fact of under production. Apparently BP and others refuse to up production due to some government waffle.
Some service stations have already run out. He said it may not be as bad as the last shortage.

The last shortage was due to an actual failure somewhere in production over in WA wasn't it? So you'd hope that it wouldn't be as bad for a simple under production. Ahh well, looks like you premium using fella's will be relegated to 95RON and some octane boost if you're particularly paranoid.

actually they arent the same fuel.
i worked at the bp refinery in wa after uni and this is the way it goes.
BP WA supplies fuel to all the companies in WA except they keep the Ultimate and the new clean diesel to themselves and send it to only there own servos australia wide.
yes all companies in WA which include caltex, shell, etc.
except Mobil and all the independents.
Mobil import about 80% of theirs from singapore which is high in sulphur and not good for the car engine.
Over east Shell and Caltex supply the fuels to all the companies there including supplying BP....but Shell keep there 98ron fuel to themselves and so does caltex...the same way BP does.
the reason behind all of this is that BP has refinery in WA and Shell has one in Geelong..i think... and Caltex have there main one in Queensland....
so instead of each company supplying there own with fuel they look after there respective states and trade fuel between each other....eg: BP WA will supply shell and caltex,....but Caltex in QLD will supply BP....and Shelll will supply BP in melbourne....
its more cost effective this way...they only ship high octane proprietary fuel across the states....
BTW the loss of Ultimate a little while back was a production issue...cant elaborate why coz i will get into shit but was basically the unit that creates the fuel was not working
no idea the deal on the latest shortage....wa is fine and its cheapish too....![]()
that reminds me...clubby and jetski need to be filled up with Ultimate *runs off to fill up*
