lol @ the piss poor turnout. Looks like Australians are realising that the best deal they can get is by working hard and working directly with employers for pay rises.
I just hope bosses will get medical certificates for those who were amazingly sick today.
One question fro any of you pro-union people.
If you want more money or can't afford to live, how can you afford to go on strike?

I think the protests would be more credible if they did them on their own time and not their employers.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
i worked at the mcg 2day for the rally.. ye the attendance was pretty shocking and i wouldnt have called in sick 2 listen 2 a heap of d*ckheads ramble on about sh*t that wont happen anyway!! it was bad enough getting paid 2 be there!
but i guess some ppl want 2 prove a point or something.. 2 each their own i guess
im unlicensed![]()

if i turn my diff around, will it make my car front wheel drive??![]()
I'm not sure what they're about, but isn't a bit late to be protesting, I thought the laws were already in place.. should have protested better in the past
Stupid bloody unions, blaming the poor turnout on the signal failure on a train line!
Lol, useless rallys, like minux said, do a hard days work a get paid, always wanting something for nothing.
i hope they have more protests, stir the teachers up, more time off school![]()
im on the same level dont really know what its bout, but if its what im thinking? there sookin bout 'more money'??
well im a chippy (domestic) i get 400 2nd yer, which is aiight i guess
i got mates who are chippys, plumber ect . . (commercial/union) the getting ****in double the amount and i prolly work twice as hard! (been on union site b4! hmmm wot a bludge)
so if there cryin bout money i dont see where they stand?
someone correct me if im wrong!
it was pointless waste of time, they had a bad enough tournout today do you think anyone would go to a protest on the weekend when there not working - i dont think so. its all scare tactics remember back to the gst days, do ya hear anyone complaining about it now? no because it was a good idea and it works eg items like shoes used to have something like 40% tax on them.
face it do you think that john howard would want to lose votes by bringing in changes that would disadvantage his chances of being relected, no
i agree from a school teachers perspective, it could get to the point where we deal with kids from 8-5. now most will laugh at that because it is their normal hours.
I usually dont leave til 5 anyway (planning, reports etc)... so if there are kids there til then im looking at being there til 7.
Thats our risk in a nutshell.
however, like minux asked, i cant afford the day off (set to lose $200odd) and i cant afford the $600 year union fee (even though it opens my up to the risk of being sued by any dumb**** parent for whatever shits them off).
So no, i beleive there is a better way, i dont agree in the IR rulings in their entirety, and i was one of 4 classes still at school today (and the kids hate me for it lol)
I couldn't disagree with anything you said, like you, i think the IR laws need tweaking, but ont he same note i think it is the best thing that has happened to Australia. unions have had a negative effect on Australia and although only slight it is enough. Unions pushed up wages, so people push up prices because people have mor emoney, slowly everything goes up and people want more money again...circle of life.

umm while i wont get into the debate about if we should or shouldnt protest... i do wonder if you actually know what one is???
do you realise what you are saying? a protest on a non-working day.... that would be a gathering, a bitch session, a cuppa.... whatever. a PROTEST is when (in this case) pressure is put on the employers, then the govt, to make changes to something workers find a little threatening.
a WORKERS protest out of hours. lol thatll change the world!!!!
Yes because the IR laws ONLY! apply to "more money"
Good work in putting down the group of australians who want to stand up for their rights! yay! opression!
lets all follow the "shut the f##k up and work hard" rule, sink back into conformaity and never stand up and fight...... ummmmmm wtf?
.... the reason that aot of people didn't go is beacuse thir employers were goning to fire them under the new IR laws.
I applaud them for trying.

my point is that everyone wants to go and protest during working hours, if they organized one on the weekend when there not working good luck trying to find people wanting to rally, forget about putting pressure on employers this is just union/labour party scare tactics at it best
i know, thats the annoying part, the real protests cause things to happen, this was dissapointing in that people were forced to work or they would loose there jobs anyway... i was going to go but got held up unfortantuly.
it shits me that the govermnet coind it a "flop" as in they think it was a major attack and they won.. it should be a rminder that maybe things need chnaging?

I hate how workers think they have all these exclusive rights, you are there to do a job, nothing else. Your employer isn't your friend and your best interests aren't their priority.
The new IR laws have created a super competitive environment which is what this country needed.
If someone is worried about losing their job, then obviously there is a reason for their worry. myself, i know i wont lose my job, i know i am a valuable asset to the company i am with. I know this because i work hard and achieve results. If people cannot feel the same about their own jobs, maybe it is time to assess why they are there or why they shouldn't find another job.
