    Default The JC site

Just curious admin and techs, what sort of hardware, server wise are you running here and how is it funded?

I am a small time server op and have a Linux box upstairs running a mail server but was just curious to know about this site. Running PHP, I am sure you must be using a flavour of *nix.

    Cheers.

Cant tell you what componets make it up, but all the funding comes out of Darren's pocket. We are looking to upgrade to a new server very soon.
If you want more detail Darren is the man to speak to.

I could imagine it would be costly, seeing the amount of bandwidth this site would take up over each day.

    jc has it's own server,
it's hosted threw a company called e-acces a internet provider in adelaide.
i can tell you this much, we started out with deep blue hosting. but out grew that one something terible, and moved to where we are now. cost of the current hardware has come out of daren's pocket.

that is something you would have to take up with darren for the rest of the info but i do know our bandwidth usage is insaine, we literaly fill up our own server.

Yeah ask Darren what componets are in the server, since he sits on it from 8-5 monday to friday.

Yeah it's a good idea. I would give a few bucks. I am not sure but maybe Darren doesn't want to see his site as a chairty. Know what I mean?

If you want to support the site click on the ad banners, and the adsense ads at the bottom!

maybe not run pop-up adds, because we all hate them, but sell advertising space to local businesses for say $20-50 a month.

if you can get a couple, that should cover your bill, and it would be a good investment from them (particularly say a mechanic) who with 2 good referrals from JC could be making double the amount they spend on advertising on JC

Maybe do a "sponsored link" thing similar to google. Someone uses the search function to search.... "best exhaust for a VN" (i've seen that one a bit!) and then a sponsored link comes up of an exhaust place in Sydney / Melb etc. You could rightly charge that company about $50 a month minimum.

Just some ideas guys. Sorry, but im a marketing guy! While we all enjoy the fact that we don;t have too many adds on JC, i think we all appreciate that you need to make money, or at least not lose any!

Cheers to Darren for forking out the money for such a great site. I've always been a fan of Commodores, but its great that we can all come to a place like this a chat about them. Good work mate!
