one thing i hate is cheap crappy stuff. i will always spend those few extra bucks to make sure what i am buying is up to a decent standard. such items and reasons include:
clothes: i always buy brand names (billabong for example). the styling is better then cheap clothes and they usually last longer.
tyres: i hate cheap tyres, they are noisy, shit in the wet and wear out too quick
food: at a resturant i dont mind paying for good food, especially steak. there is nothing worse then getting a piece of steak they feels like it was peeled off a used dunlop
toilet paper: umm, without going it to too much detail... cheap toilet paper feels as if it is grease proof
now post other examples of why its better to spend the extra money instead of buying cheap![]()
i don't mind paying extra for food brands, not take out/dinging, but supermarket products, NOT home brand stuff.
cds.. i dont mind to an extent, say if i had the choice of a second hand cd or a new one, id go new, but i usually just buy from JB HiFi
i actually like buying quality stuff for presents, i really dislike spending on myself.. i hate clothes shopping. the most expensive piece of rag i bought for myself.... ummmm..... 130 dollars? ONE PIECE of my formal outfit, ha ha the halter top
I usually pay for good quality technolody, audio etc.
Personally I don't see the need to buy brand names clothes all the time. Why would I buy a Nike t-shirt made in China for $30 when I can go to Target and get a tee without the logo for $10 and made in China.
Car oil and toothpaste I pay extra because of the brand name. A lot of foods like home brand I will not buy.
Tools. I love good quality tools. I recently found a seller on ebay selling Japanese tools and starting buying heaps. The prices wern't very much higher than cheap Chinese tools anyway.
Anything German or Japenese I like. But Stanley, Sidchrome and Kincrome I would buy for the name but they are made in China.

Media! Like blank CD/DVDs.. there is a damned difference, the absolute minimum I would buy is Ritek, prefer Taiyo Yuden's though.
Same with computer components - they're cheaper than the other for a reason whether it's build quality or running inferior/outdated chipsets and just has a lot of features to trick the buyer.
There's no such thing as a bargain anymore unless it's a brand product at a reduced rate, you need to look and ask yourself "why is this so cheap?"
I've been through three generic no name brand MP3 players. And I wouldn't touch an aftermarket video game controller.
And I'm with craigvk, cheapo clothes rule (get a whole lot more for less)
EDIT: Nintendo Wii is a good example.. it's competing with the X360 and PS3, so how can it be so cheap? Because it's just more powerful than an XBOX 1, only has 480p output (no HDTV) and only has 5.1 surround.. the only thing it has going for it is that cool controller (it's sold me)
Furniture, i never buy cheap, you buy better it lasts longer.
Car parts, i never buy cheap shit for obvious reasons.
Clothing, i agree with Troy, although the products are made in China the fit is much better than the cheaper crap made in China.
Wine: I never drink a cheap wine. Wine is a case very much so of you get what you pay for.
one last thing, shoes. I have to be very selective in what shoes i buy.
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Yeah clothes pay a bit more, i like the adidas, nike ect.
Tools, i never buy cheap stuff, it doesn't last. Snap on or kinchrome for me.
yeah id allwasy rather save wait a bit longer and buy quality stuff when its for my car or like media stuffs tv's/dvd players stuff like that

Tools! I bought a pair of circlip pliers from a cheap shop for 3 dollars not excpecting them to be any good but to use on smaal circlips. They bent the first time I used them. But then again I have heard Snap on ones arent that great either.
Beer
Clothes as someone has said.
And tyres as you said minux
Pretty much everything really. You get what you pay for dont you.
On another note, my brother years ago bought a pair of Doc Marten's shoes and they lasted years.
A few months ago, he wanted to get another pair and paid heaps for them as you do. They are made in China now and not the UK? where they once were.
They lasted two months before the seam split on them. How poor is that?
Another thing years ago I bought a Malibu shirt for $50 from a surf shop. Went through the wash and came out looking like a 10 year old rag in threads.
My point is brand names don't mean great quality. Target claim on all their clothing that it goes through rigurous testing for shrinkage and wear and tear. If you buy their clothes and it shrinks or whatever, take it back and get a refund or a new peice of clothing etc.
in the last 12 months i reckon ive spent around 2500 on clothes (including jeans, shirts, boradies, jumpers and shoes). too much money when you add it up, but on the plus side i dont need to buy anymore. but i will, i cant help myself.
I refuse to buy cheap entertainment equipment. I prefer brands like Sony, Kenwood and JVC. Had the cheap stuff before and it's crap.
Always spend the little bit extra on stuff like lubricants, parts, tyres, etc on the car as cost cutting on something that weighs nearly 1.5 tonne and can easily kill myself or others if inferior gear is used just isn't worth it
I like red wine but don't think you need to spend a lot of money each time for a decent bottle. There are some great smaller wineries popping up nowadays that are doing some really good wines for a price that a lot of people would associate with cheap and nasty wines..
Funniest thing ever was when a hospitality industry magazine did some blind testing with 3 high end reds, 3 mid range reds and 3 bargain basement reds and 12 highly respected wine critics
Only 6 of them correctly picked the Penfolds Grange as the most expensive wine and one of the $5.99 clearskin cheapies came in as the 3rd favourite among the critics
Another thing I always spend more on is microphones for my P.A. set-ups, I run Shure or Nady gear only as I've found that the cheaper mics break to easily when being used constantly. I've had one of my Shures for 12 years now and it's still going strong
In terms of clothing I'll usually only spend a little extra on jeans or suits because usually if you try to skimp on these they are ill-fitting
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
Oh beer. Gold bitter or Red bitter, the 30 blocks for $25. That beer tastes like crap. I refuse to buy it. VB, Carlton Draught are ok but Boags and Cascade are better.
I don't mind paying a bit extra for a brand name. I dont shop at Kmart or anything haha
Ummm... For food, I'd pay anything as long as its good, and portions are good. Nothing i hate more than walking out of a place $150 poorer and still hungry.
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

i dont realy buy much apart from fuel, in which case i'll go caltex if im poor or when i have some spare dollars its a tank of BP premo for me. HATE getting shell or *shudders* gull >.<
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
I kind of steer clear of everything cheap, as you only get what you pay for.
i always stay away from cheap and nasty batterys, some last for about 2 shots in my digital camera.
Hasn't the reject shop got like 80 AA batteries for 4 bucks? haha![]()
I don't mind paying extra for the Holdens...

Minux, that was a pretty uneducated comment about wine. sounded more like 'I buy expensve wine to pad my ego' there are great wines out there for 10 to 20 bux a bottle and some real nasty ones lurking around in the higher brackets. alot of blind tastings will show this.

The home brand stuff is usually exactly the same product as the more expensive brand, but with a different label. Dad has worked in many food manufacturing plants, Uncle Toby, etc. and has seen them just change the roll of label to a plain label brand, eg, Home Brand, etc.happens mostly everywhere.
So basically you are paying more for the colorful packaging when you purchase the more expensive brands.

I do buy some cheaper stuff, such as clothes. I used to have a pair of Jag jeans that cost me $100, they died after about 1.5years, went into target and found a pair for $40 and they're still going after 2 years (but my gut's gettin bigger)
Never buy cheap shoes because the only time I'm not on my feet is when I'm asleep.
I buy cheap tools if it's something I'll use twice and never again, or if I'm broke and need to do something urgent.
Other than that, I just make best use of what little disposable money I have
