Time is just an abstract concept invented by humans to monitor our ongoing decay.

Anyways I think Melbourne's already on it. Boring fact it was invented as a way of conserving candles back in the time when candles were used for lighting because there was more sunlight for longer

Nah, get rid of the turning the clock. It's BS. Everyone knows down here we enjoy more sunshine later in the day but adjusting our clocks is BS. I wish we ddin't need to

i disagree with the daylight savings, and im sure miners and heavy instustrial workers will dislike even MORE sunshine in their days, which was one of the reasons they never bothered with daylight savings in the first place.

my reasoning is it makes everything seem askew, oh sure i'll wake up tomorrow like nothing happened and that my clocks werent touched but i still dislike he idea of the whole " i degree that as of today it is now on hour in the future! " business.

so im rambling, i still think daylight savings is bull.

I like it, but I'm Tasmanian so I'll take all the sunshine I can get.

Uh Daylight savings doesn't actually affect time. All it does is give you an extra hour, but in actual fact, the time is still the same.

So when it's 1.00PM it's still 12.00PM, actual time. You guys are making out as if the whole concept of time is changed, when we change our clocks. lol

daylight saving is fantastic. in fact, daylight saving should be abolished, and the clocks should be forward for the whole year.

i don't need sunlight in the morning. i guess some people do, but personally i'd prefer the sunlight after work, than before it, because i tend to sleep as long as possible in the morning, no time to enjoy any light.

    I love it.
I can undestand why some do not care for it where it is work specific but there are few valid reasons put forward.

Kids leaving school during the hottest part of the day ie 2.00pm I don't get.
On a normal summer day, without storms, the temp varies approx 2 degrees from 1.00pm - 3.30pm. You do get exceptions though.

From the radio yesterday just for fun:

But my car will fade in the extra sunlight, it is bad enough now as I don't have a carport, can I bill the Government for the paint protection I need.

Caller: My curtains will fade quicker, DJ: Oh you mean putting the kids to bed when it is still light thus having to draw the curtains, Caller: I don't have any kids, DJ: Are you a shift worker or do you like to go to bed early?
Caller: No, I go to bed at about 10.30pm, it's just the extra hour of sunlight.
    DJ : ummm OK.

We already have temps in the 40s, with the extra daylight we will have more 40+ days and that is dangerous for old people.

hahahahaha those idiots think that the government changed the amount of time the sun hits the earth. For those who are as stupid as those callers, there is still only 24 hours in a day and the same amount of sunlight per day.

theres a few posts in this thread of people hinting that theres more sunlight.

I don't care either way, i wake up, work, eat, sleep, then do it all again the next day.

    Default There is more sunlight!

While the day remains 24 hours (well, 24 hours and a little, which is why we add it up and have an extra day every 4 years - leap year), there are longer and shorter days. Actually, that should be a longer time period with the sun being out and shorter night periods.

The sun is in its lowest path in the sky in the Winter solistic which brings the shortest days. The summer solistic carries the longest days. So, yes. The sun stays in the skies longer which is why we adjust the time so people can spend more time in the sun, and reverses this on the shorter-sun days.

so in theory then, people should be crying about the sun, not daylight savings!

In essence, yes. There is actually more to just longer daylight hours. There is strong evidence that our internal clock is influenced by the light of the sun. I think it is called the Cicadian rhytmn. Don't quote me on that, I probably spelled it wrong, or worst, mixed it up with a chinese take out dish.

Either way, changes in daylight has a great effect on most of us. And adjusting the time to compensate can be beneficial.

In that case, shouldn't this daylight savings shananigans apply to winter when daylight is more scarce, as opposed to applying it to summer when sunlight is plentiful.

Also, think of us poor farmers, l0l, adjusting to this daylight savings for me feels like a severe case of jet-lag...

Marco, I was not advocating one way or another. Obviously, everything that is done will not benefit everyone.

In the winter you have shorter sun days and the clock is adjusted to negate the change made for the longer sun days in the summer. Actually, I don't know how it works. I am not sure if the adjustment of the clock is done for short days in winter, or long days in summer. The ol "which came first the chicken or the egg", question.
