Default Competition has swayed me...I have been converted!

After test driving countless 6cyl VY commodores and BA falcons, i have purchased myself a 03 BA XR6. Was love at first sight/drive. I found it alot smoother, better performance and definetly handled alot better then the vy S and calais s/c i tested.
I still have my VS calais, i couldnt part with it, so i gave it to my brother(at least i still see and it and can drive it).
I would just like to thankyou u all on here for your help rectifying problems and saving my self some money etc... have learnt alot about the cars from this forum. I will still come on here but not as much as i used to, i got a whole new car to learn about now!

Even tho i own a ford still a holden man at heart!

My father did the opposite. He bought a VY 25th Anniversary Edition and gave me his VR Calais. Both are fine cars. Good luck with the XR6. I'm sure it would be a fine vehicle even though I'll always be a holden man.

Yeah i still love my holdens,it was pretty sad taking all my stuff out of the calais, im just glad that i havnt wasted all the money io spent on it!

Yeah mate allways fun to pick on the ford drivers, lol, but dnt worry ill be backing up holden in the ford forums if they start to stir crap about them!

its funny on way to work , how many commo drivers wanna drag me, never had that problem in calais(except for ricers), i didnt drag any of them of course, not worth the risk!

I was always a ford man, always will be, but what would you choose, an EL XR8 for 10k in average condition, bog stock, or VT calais V8 for 13k in schmic condition, with mags and all the lil luxuries.
i went holden cuz i was getting more for my money, now i've come to have a soft spot for them.

i was actually driving a BA XR8 ute for a while a few weeks back, and i must say i was pretty impressed. as jamie said they are a nice smooth ride, and have one of the nicest interiors in a ford for ages. i really think they got it right this time. congrats on the new purchase too mate.

Hey Jamie_87, I got a BA XR6 N/A and they are an awesome car (I'm neither a Ford or Holden guy I'm a car enthusiast). Ford had to do something after the stuff up with the AU.
Is your car an Auto or Manual? And do you know which month it was built?

Did you find the Commodore V6 revved a lot harder? I find the Fords a bit doughy...

Nice choice bud, you won't be dissapointed, i have not once regretted the purchase of my XR8, havent had any problems(unlike the the 2 engines and 2 gearboxes i had in my VT). As much as i love commonwhores i do have a soft spot for my falcon

ANTVT:yeah mate the ride is unreal ,smoother than the vy calais i drove, the handling is awesome , i took t around this corner and it didnt budge just hugged it all the way around and you dnt have to fight the steering like in my calais, u turn and it turns.

VZTRT: yeah mines the sequential auto, im loving the sequential auto mode. also love how the trans adapts to the way u drive, shifts hard when ur giving it hard time and shift soo smoothly when u babying it.i find the first a bit long(as with all ford auto's), 2nd and 3rd are awesome and fourth is a pretty good highway ratio, still gives u enough power to overtake with minimal revs pretty quickly. Mine was built 9/03.

JULIE: Yeah i wish i had ab 8(be hard to choose but the sound of genIII will sway me i think) but just didn't have the $$$. I want to get the xr8 bonnet put on later but, they just finish the front end real nice.

HOLDEN#1:Na mate i this thing just revs so freely, i found the 3.8 to sound too harsh at high rpm. I like to keep the revs below 4000rpm but, i love the feeling of torque(380nm)

MINUX:totally agree with u i love my commodores, but def have a soft spot for this model falcon. so happy with the car, just cruising to work and back today.

yeah thanks mate, ill treat her the way i treat all my holdens, fill up with good fuel, service every 5000km and occansionally blow-out the "cobwebs".

yeah i remember my vp i had, ran rough and copped alot but never died!

The biggest problem you'll have is the front discs will require machining (big problem with the BA) so if it's out of warranty DBA4000 will do the trick.
The four speed auto's first gear is long but at the diff is a higher ratio to the XT it goes harder (Had a squirt in the 6 speed and you can feel the power of the 4L). Oh and I6 will take a lot of beating, remember B-series don't have head gasket problems!

yeah mate, i noticed the front discs straight away, but i was lucky i pushed them for an extra 3yrs warrenty . Love the brakes tho, sh!ts all over my calais brakes, and cant get over the way it handles, so much grip

Another problem is the handbrake, the shoes are touching when driving, needs to be reset(another warrenty job).

Apart from that im very happy with the car, 2nd gear is bloddy awesome, so much torque in these things. Since changing to K&N filters and xr6T intake it takes off alot better now, first is alot better now, picks up alot better at lower rpm than before.

Yeah, my mate couldn't believe how well the thing brakes, only problem is the shudder that occurs when you drive the thing hard. I have a manual so I can protect it.

The rubbing of the back pads is a problem, but i've heard the dealership charges for the proper fix. Mind you I head so many commodores with the same issue (VT's onwards).

Try to drive the manual version, than you really feel some torque. Also if your thinking of modding the thing Jim Mock Motorsports is prob the best in the country as they have an XT doing 13.8 last time I checked.

Atleast you're mature enough, to drive cars from both sides. Same can't be said about alot of Holden and Ford people though.

I would love an EB/ED for my next car. Maybe I'll still be a Holden man at heart, but I've grown alot of appreciation for Falcons, over the last year or so.

The BA is a nice car, especially the XR series. Nice purchase, it'll treat you well. I have to ask though, is yours that sexy purple?

Re the handbrake, on FF they saying that the dealers usually do it under warrenty as its a factory fault...

yeah i've driven a manual version, ill say it took off alot harder, but i love the sequential auto, gear shift are excellent, very quick shifts for an auto.Just wish it was the ZF 6spd box.

On FF i've heard about JMM. Been searching about mods for the 6's and im amazed at how little work u have to do to get decent power out of these engines. The biggest problem is how much the cpu restricts the power. Its got this torque managment built in that limits the amount of torque so you lengthen the life of the driveline components. Getting a custom edit done to the ECU gets rid of the torque management and open up a nice amount of power.
