    Default this blows

good god I'm in some pain at the moment. I've just had a tonsilectomy and an adenoidectomy this morning (15 hours ago)

I'm on liquid version of Morphine and it seems to take a lot of the edge off the pain but god damn it hurts. Considering that my throat has swelled up 3 times it's normal size.

The nurse at the hospital didn't tell me to shut up when I started talking in the hospital straight after the surgery....big mistake, made it all worse. Although they did say that I would be totally wiped out by my surgery today and wouldn't be able to do a thing. I sat on the couch for a couple of hours after I got home and then replaced the front two discs on the car and look forward to replacing the rear two discs.

Have developed a slight case of the hiccups...goddamn tey hurt.

Tell me your experiences with surgery.....
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

I used to get tonsilitus every damn year when I was younger. Pain in the butt. Only surgery I have had was when I was 15, my big toe fell off lol. It was hanging on by skin. It didn't hurt because the amazing human body goes numb around the affected area but I was just shocked. The doc came and put it back on straight. I could see my complete toe bone exposed. The sugeons at the hospital did an awesome job of putting it back together. I remember waking up at 2-3 in the morning and the nurse came over with a plate and I spewed some liquid up. The anesthetic screws you a bit.

When I was 13 my appendix got infected and burst within 48 hours of first symptoms showing up (I'm told that's bad). Apparently it was pretty messy, took a few hours of surgery to clean it up. Knocked me around pretty badly, two or three weeks later we had to do a fitness test for PE, my results were shockingly bad unsurprisingly. I've had a tooth pulled as well, but I don't think that counts, gonna have to get the wisdom teeth done soon, can't keep putting it off. It's gonna hurt like hell, I just know it.

Broke my right femur clean break, broke my left fibula (both in the same accident), had 3 lots of surgery following to correct the break then further muscular surgery on the fibula to correct where the plates werent set properly.

Was very painful, any surgery that involves going through major muscle and bone is very very painful.

I had a hernia when I was 15, instestine fell through a rip in my abdominal muscle into my scrotum. docs operated on it cutting me open just north east of Mr. Johnson (basically inline with my hip joint but toward my stomach. apparently when I woke up I was screaming and crying so they gave me pethidine in my bum cheek...
operation didn't work (muscle tore again), so one year one week later I was back under te knife, and now I have a 3" square piece of surgical flyscreen in my abdomen. second op I didn't come out of the anaesthetic properly (never have but this time was the worst) and froze to the point where I was comatose without meds. both times it was excruciating trying to walk or stand.

One year ago yesterday i had a microdiscectomy(lowerback surgery)Basicly a bulging disc on a major nerve.Best thing i have ever done, back is twice as strong as before.
May last year i had my appendix removed, had three days of pain so went to hospital and they took it out the next morning. It was perforated and i had to spend a few more hours under the knife to clean up,and while they were in there they found my intestines were wrapped around the appendix. That would explain why the regular gut pains i had for the last 15 years are now gone.
    Again a job well done.

As a result of a motor bike accident in 1984 I badly fractured 3 vertebrae in my lower spine, & in my right knee, I tore 2 main ligaments off the bone (posterior cruciate & medial), tore another main ligament (anterior cruciate) completely in half, ripped open most of the muscles & severed most of the nerve endings.

Knee repair took over 7 hours, 100s of stitches & 2 large surgical staples. Not all nerve endings could be repaired, & because of the ligament damage I have low stability & strength in that knee.

Spent nearly the next 10 years slowly getting back to what resembled walking. I still don't walk normally & am in constant pain in both back & knee.

OUCH! whenever i f*ck something up i dont even bother going to the doctor because i eventually get used to it and i know there usually going to say "go home and take these pain killers and youll be fine in a week"..... like when i went head 1st over the handle bars of a motorbike and almost broke my kneck..... shit that hurt... really should go to the doctors when that sort of stuff happens *rolls eyes* o well im fine so its all good anyways hope you get better 12volt

Been there done that. When i had mine done bout 13 years ago, they dislocated my jaw to get in far enough, chiseled away jaw bone to get to the teeth.

Back then it was a pretty major job to remove wisdom teeth. I lived off yogurt, jelly and soup for a month! Drove me nuts! I couldnt open my mouth wide enough to get anything else in.

Doctor said i wouldnt be able to open my jaw to its full capacity for a year. Well its only been the last couple of years that i have been able to...

I was told that same thing 2 years ago after a work mishap... I now have to keep my spine either dead straight or curved forward just to dull the pain, and my lower back muscles are as weak as a 10 year old's. that brings the fun things to a grinding halt..

    lol nice

well i almost cut my finger off when i was younger trying to break into mums plastic money box with the sharpest knife in the house, it was literally hanging by a thread of skin, i remember dad was building a pagola out the back and heard me screamin, came in to see me standing there with a nice big puddle of blood at my feet and didn't he sh^t himself got to the doctors and had me on a table straight away with 2 of these buggars commin at me with needles (as a young kid that is scary stuff) i had to lie there and watch them put 5 needles into the freshly opened wound

now i have a fear of needles and a love of knives work that out.

not one of mine but mum had a nasty car accident when she was 18, fell asleep at the wheel after working a late night shift and went straigh into a tree at about 90km/h (thats what she was told) was in hospital for about 9 months and now is full of pins, rods and all sorts of things. Funny thing is the doctors said she would never walk again and she proved them wrong

4 wisdom teeth out, at once.. bleed heaps, reconstructed right arm, (4 fractures and shifted meta-carples), lat dorsi tear (rooted back, went on work cover was off work for 8 months.... have to be carful when doing things, i made it come back for a week when i was putting the heads back on my engine... soo much pain )

blood tests for a my liver, i had to stop drinking soo much or i wasnt going to be good... and had my drink spiked ended up in hospital, that was the tip of the ice berg

about to go back in for majour surgery on my mouth...
having 6 bones cut and shifted and held together with plates, (jaw ajustment) ive got a abnormal jaw and i cant eat properly ( i dont look retarded or anything)

surgery is a bitch, you wake up not not know whats going on, feel like crap, the drugs make you feel better in some way but **** you up in others, i know how you feel..

dont worry mate, pain comes and goes, but atleast its over now and you dont have to have it happen again.. after my next opp ill be in hospital for a month, wont be able to eat solids for 2 and wont beable to talk for a good 2-3 weeks.. and ill be off work for 3 months...

hang in there, it'll all get better soon!!!!

my dad fell off the roof yesturday and shattered his wrist. he has to have surgery tomorrow so they can reconstruct the bone. the worst part is that he is a mechanic and they say that he may not be able to work for very long after he recovers, which means he might have to look into selling the business. other than the arm he came out ok, few stiches, maybe broken rib, saw knee. they said he was lucky.

last year i had a pilonidal sinus removed, had an open wound in the bottom of my back for 3-4months while healing, i could fit a 2.5' x 2.5' square seaweed dressing in the wound, wasnt cool, hurt a lot. and was a sick from anesthic > which is not cool when you have friends visiting and you start spewing all over youself and making a mess, found out i was a little allergic to voltaren tablets and spewed everywhere in the hospitals waiting room, etc etc

About 2 years ago my Mum had breast cancer.

She got her breasts screened and the people there noticed a lump. They knew right away and Mum knew something was not right. They had to wait for a doctor to tell Mum the bad news. Mum waited for a while until the doctor told her that she had a lump but my Mum knew something wasn't right all along when she was waiting. I guess it was only a doctors duty to tell people the bad news. Mum just wanted them to come out with it and tell her the truth that she had cancer.
I thought my Mum was going to die at first but I kept telling her it will be ok. She still has hot flushes, but Mum is good.
