Wondering if anyone had any experience with Canon Pixma MP810?
I have just finished install of everything and am quite impressed with the quality of photo prints it does.

i think that was the one my brother wanted to buy.
i kept telling him "please go and buy the printer, please go and buy the printer, i need a printer, i need the printer, it's important"
waited a month, no printer, i got so annoyed, bought my own printer, the HP 3180??? one, it's really good and has a scanner and all that jazz
Not personally, but sold plenty, and by all reports is an excellent printer![]()
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
I bought one of the early pixmas when they came out, have been quiet impressed with it, even for a low end printer.
I had an early model Pixma, and was a bit put out by how loud it was.
But the print quality was excellent, especially for the price

I converted from years of Epson printers to the Canon Pixma family and really impressed with mine, walked into the store looking at a newer Epson and decided on a Pixma instead
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
Good choice of printer. The canon pixma range of printers are a good quality printer.
Tip: Make sure you use Genuine Canon Cartridges, as refills and generic brand cartridges will void the warranty of the printer.
Other reasons to avoid refills and generic inks are that they will eventually damage the printhead, and you don't get as many prints out of a refilled cartridge.

Heh, Epson... My advice? Steer WELL clear. Stay away from Lexmark too.
Canon are generally very good, HP and Ricoh make pretty good laser printers.
we have a hp psc750 which is like 5-6 years and it is the biggest piece of crap ever made has a few occasional problems cost about $150 to buy a colour and black cartridge, but its prints are pretty good quality, we're going to buy a cannon next time it runs out of ink
After a good 1 year my HP DJ 3650's power cord shorted out, no printer now, I want a Canon that does CD/DVD printing
I've only ever had HP's until just recently. They were all buckets off sh*t that all failed mechanically.
Currently on an Epson that dad got temporarily, print/scan/copy one of those suckers. It's decent so far, but I nearly broke it thanks to the printer cartrige labels being ridiculous, it had remove blue plastic written on the instructions, there were two pieces, one over an air breather, and the other same plastic over the refill plug. Needless to say I leaked all 4 cartridges into the bottom of the printer.
How much was it minux?
$389, plus $50 cashback. So only $349.
photos look sweet as, prints cd's/dvd's no worries, LCD screen, multi feed trays, scans awesome, copies awesome.
I couldn't have asked for a better deal.
Replacing every ink cartridge costs $125 and includes 240 free photo sheets(6*4)

Hey, I work in a cartridge world, Canon and HP printer are the only way.
Epson, Lexmark are a rort for new carts, brothers aint too bad but stuff up nice n quick.
Minux i would try use ur printer atleast once a fortnight or ur printhead will dry up n probly get only just ova 18months outta it.
Its just coz canon's have the highest print resolution and finest droplet size soo they tend to block up quicker than most but do the best photos.
Anyone need sum help with there printer give us a yell as i manage a cartridge world.
PS Printer warrenty cannot be woided for useing a cartridge world refill, sum others will but we use a very high quality ink that has the same formulation as the genuine's
Just thought id add this....
All Inkjet printers should be used atleast once a fortnight to keep the printheads from drying up n blocking.
Canon's and Epsons are bad for this but the canon onse the head can be replaced but generally u can get a new printer for a bit extra.
Epson Printheads are non-replaceable soo once the block up totally you have a very low chance to get it to work again.
If u ever see a blank line running thru ur print this is ur head starting to block up.
Sooo u may think ur saving money by not printing but its accually the opposite.
I am a computer technician and work on this kind of crap every day. A refilled cartridge is never going to be as good as a genuine, no matter what anyone tells you (sorry calais_cruzin). Lets face it, places such as Cartridge World are trying to sell a product and they aren't the people getting the rooted printers come into their stores every day from shoddy cartridges, its people like me who have to try and fix them.
I would estimate about 90% of printers that are buggered have used non-genuine ink that has stuffed the print heads. And to replace print heads in a Canon is almost as much as replacing the whole printer. So they are all basically write-offs.
In saying that, despite trying to convince otherwise, my Dad now buys non-genuine ink for his Canon i560. So far so good! It is a BIG saving in cost and the print quality is just as good as a genuine cartridge. Its just a matter of risk. You could save the amount of money of a new printer by using non-genuine cartridges, and if the thing does stuff up, you will break even when it comes to getting a new one. There is a valid argument for each side.
As for printers, we sell HP printers at work and I'm not a big fan. Lexmark are even worse. Epson are about par with Lexmark. The best by a long way is Canon, which my work refuses to stock (I have a sneaking suspicion that they are more expensive to buy). If you want a printer, buy a dedicated printer, not that all-in-one garbage. The scanners are usually rubbish quality and a fax isn't really necessary in this modern age of email. Canon also have independent print heads and seperate ink tanks. That means you only need to replace the individual colours once they run out, not the whole colour cartridge.
I've never really had any good success with HP ink printers, just stick with Canon for ink.
HP definitely make good laser printers though, we've got dozens of them running without the slightest hiccup at the site I work at. Just don't use PCL6 drivers (Stick with PCL5) and you'll be fine. PCL6 is useless.

So what exactly are the non genuine cartridges doing to the print heads to make them stuff up?
Hingo- Most of the pirnter repaires that i do are generally stuffed because of cheaper generic carts, ill have probly 5 a week with cheap carts in n only get about 1 a f/n with my inks.
The main reason Refills or generics block the head is they generally dry quicker and or dont have as much cleaning product in the ink as the genuine do, or the ink isnt the same formula to the right ink.
If u use it atleast once a f/n they stay in good order for a few yrs.
Ive got a I550 and have never bought a Gen cart ony ever used the refills but i do use it regularly, its just comin up to 4yrs now n is only just gettin sum small faint lines thru it.
The gens do work better than most refills n generics, but if u print regularly n dont let the printer sit for long then the refills work fine.
Its only wen the printer sits for X amout of time between use that u get the problems with the head drying up or just burning out from the ink not being right.
So if you do regular print head cleans? Say, once a month, you should be right, that'd be enough to avoid any dryness?
I'm actually fairly sure the printer I have tells you when it needs cleaning.
If u Got the epson i would strongly recomoned using the thing once a week.
Only have to print out sumthing small with all the colours n black to get rid of the dry layer of ink.
But instead of printing I could run the head cleaning function? I thought most printers had that? Prints out a page or something containing each colour.
A print head clean does do a good job but doesn't last forever. By regularly using the printer like calais_cruzin said, you stop the ink from drying up. Provided you do this, refill cartridges will mostly work fine. The main problem with refills though is that the ink is usually to thick and blocks the print head. When it gets into the head, it will dry and cause faint lines on your prints. Keeping the printer active will mostly help avoid this.
doing a print head clean uses a lot of ink. I have had customers do about a dozen head cleans to find that they have used a full ink cartridge just through cleaning.
